Ukraine, Kiev - The city has an unexpected story about the Zenit stadium, that became the site of a disputed and infamous game the so-called "Death Match", that occurred during the Nazi occupation through World War II in 9 August 1942, where a local Ukrainian group of Football players defeated a military team of German artillery and Luftwaffe units.

According to the historical sources, the German artillery and Luftwaffe units beforehand told the local Ukrainian team that it should better not win the football match, except that the team of locals did instead ignore the warning and prevailed which then led to locals winning the final against the Units with 5-3.

In retribution, the German units took the key players of the team. Were the local Ukrainian team murdered because they won the match?

The truth has sadly been difficult to answer according to sources. This after a player who popularized the legend did seem to have told as many versions of the story of the so-called, Death Match as there were goals in the game.
