Champions will miss the round of 16: Trend Continues

Germany's Mario Gomez, Mats Hummels (C) and Niklas Suele react after Germany's loss

Germany bowed out in the opening round for the first time since 1938 and finished bottom of Group F following a shock 2-0 loss to South Korea in Kazan on Wednesday.

Facing a 1-0 defeat against Mexico in their opening match in Russia and then required a 95th-minute strike from  Kroos to cross Sweden 2-1, the Bayern Munich centre-back acknowledged they have not been at their best for a long time.

The first big sensation of WORLD CUP 2018 has already happened. Germany is out of
playoffs with the last place in Group F.
This is the 4th time (3rd in a row) within last 5 World Cups, when the champions of
the previous World Cups fail to qualify to the final part of the tournament.

2002 - France

After having an interesting final with Brazil and getting the title of World champion in 1998 France lost 2 of their 3 matches in Group A of World Cup 2002 to Senegal and Denmark and had a goalless draw with Uruguay.

2006, when Italy won the title by winning France in incredible final match in Berlin (play time score 1:1, penalties 5:3 and an unforgettable moment, which will stay
forever in the World football history, when Zidane headbutted Materazzi), was followed
by a downgraded performance by the Italy team which crashed their flight with just 2 points in their Group F in the 2010 world cup.

Mats Hummels witnessed Germany get eliminated from Russia 2018 and then declared the last time the World Cup holders delivered a “convincing performance” was last year.

Hummels sent a late header over from point-blank range, while Timo Werner and Toni Kroos also spurned chances to send the defending champions into the knockout stages before sucker punches from Kim Young-gwon and Son Heung-min.

An unstoppable German "machine", that won 7:1 Brazil in semifinal and 1:0 Argentina in final of World Cup 2014, started the new major tournament in Russia with a 0:1 lose to Mexico, gave hope to the fans after the match with Sweden and suddenly flew out of the tournament after an unexpected loss 0:2 to Korea Republic despite making 26 shots (only 6 on target) in this match.
