Bayern was behind in 22' minutes when Karim Onisiwo's close-range header gave Mainz the early lead midway through the first half against the run of play.
Bayern Munich pushed for the equalizer and they got it when Kingsley Coman finished from Corentin Tolisso's to give the host the much-needed equalizer.
Before Jamal Musiala completed the come back with a low strike to give the host the win. Mainz could have gotten a late equalizer if not for superb goalkeeping by Manuel Neuer to deny a shot by Moussa Niakhate.
