Kylian Mbappe stoppage time winner was the difference between the two teams as PSG beats Real Madrid to have a one goal lead in the first leg of the Champions league knockout stage.

Mbappe who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid picked a pass from Neymar and glided pass to Madrid players to then slot the ball between the legs of Madrid goalie Thibaut Courtois in a dramatic fashion.

PSG had dominated the game from the start of the first half and will have every right to feel frustrated with a miss from Angel Di Maria after Mbappe had gotten pass Dani Carvahal to square the ball to him. Much of the game was spent in the Madrid half with Verrati and Leonardo Parades bossing the midfield but despite that PSG struggled to create clear cut chances as the Madrid defence was resolute.

Second half was much of the same from PSG with an increased tempo in their play but Nuno Mendes could not put the ball in the back of the net after Madrid goalie had spilled the ball, then came a moment of brilliance from Mbappe which he dribble pass Cavahal but was brought down by the Real Madrid defender in the penalty area and the resulting free kick which was taken by Lionel Messi was expertly saved by Thibaut Courtois. It mounted more frustration on PSG but with the introduction of Neymar with 20+ minutes to go was a decisive move as he added a little bit of creativity to the PSG team that was running short of ideas. Neymar was a handful for the Real Madrid players with his dribbling and crosses, in which during stoppage time he provided the backheel pass in which Kylian Mbappe used to produce a moment of brilliance to give PSG the win and a lead ahead of the second leg which will hold on the 9th of March, 2022.
