Liverpool produced a remarkable comeback not only to draw the match at 3-3 but to also go on to win it at the penalty shootout. Leicester City rattled Liverpool in the first 13 minutes of the first half after two precise strikes from Jamie Vardy gave Leicester City the lead against Liverpool. The host was shell-shocked but was able to compose their selves to pull a goal back when Roberto Firmino's layoff found Oxlade Chamberlain who's rifled it the first time.

The game felt like Leicester City was going to run away with it when James Madison scored from a rasping 25-yard effort to give Leicester City their two-goal lead back and to ensure their lead at half-time.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made a triple halftime substitution which gave Liverpool the spark and zeal to push forward as they fight back from 3-1 down with Leicester City defenders forced to make numerous blocks in the second half with notably that of Caglar Soyuncu's superb block to deny Firmino a goal in the second half. Sadly that marked the end of Soyuncu's contribution for Leicester after signaling discomfort in which he was substituted. Soyuncu's exit signaled a resurgence in Liverpool who upped the tempo and got another goal back when Diogo Jota scored from a Takumi Minamino's pass to reduce the deficit to 3-2 before Takumi Minamino, (a player that is so often overlooked by Jurgen Klopp) took down a James Milner's cross and scored to make the scores 3-3 and also to take the game to a penalty shootout.

MORE DRAMA AT THE PENALTY SHOOTOUT

A nerve-racking penalty shootout was taken in which the likes of Milner, Firmino, Oxlade Chamberlain and Naby Keita converted from the penalty spot respectively for Liverpool while also the likes of Youri Tielemans, James Madison, and Marc Albrighton converted their spot-kicks for Leicester but misses from youngster Luke Thomas and Ryan Bertrand who both failed to beat Liverpool young goalie Kelleher cost Leicester the match.

It looked as if Takumi Minamino was going to be the hero of the spot-kick for Liverpool but he also missed his penalty when he shot with much power as the ball hit the top bar to go out of play leaving the deciding kick to Diogo Jota who fired home the decisive penalty as Liverpool reached their first Carabao cup semis since 2017.

Liverpool will play Arsenal in a double legged semis which will commence on the 3rd of January, 2022
