Jose Mourinho who still regarded by some as one of the best managers in club football. His appointment as the new Roma manager was greeted with much fanfare and enthusiasm as it was believed he was the manager to take the club to the next level.

His appointment made the fans believe they could clinch silverware for the first time in 20 years since they clinched the Seria A title and two Coppa Italia but........

It has not been smooth as planned

Roma is currently seventh on the Seria A log which was the position they finished under predecessor Paulo Fonesca with their domestic form this season very poor. Their lowest point has been a 6-1 ass-whooping at the hands of Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League and 4-3 defeat at the hands of title rivals Juventus having taken the lead 3-1 only to concede three late goals to lose the match. There were also losses to Ac Milan, a Rome derby defeat to Lazi,o and a surprise defeat to minnows Venezia.

Despite all this the Roma Boss still has the support of the Hierarchy and fans but how long can that go on. Signed to a contract of €7.5m for three years and Roma splashed €100m on the transfer market for the likes of Tammy Abraham, Matias Vina, Rui Patricio, Marash Kumbulla, Eldor Shomurodov. Mourinho's side initially won their first seven games in the Seria A but that was against teams that they were expected to beat. Against the top side though they have been abysmal with the only top team beaten so far has been Atalanta. Seems like the "Special One" is losing his touch 🙃

Even his defensive trademark which is renowned in his teams has been nothing short of hogwash in this Roma team as there is no balance between Defense and Midfield which has to lead to lots of goals conceded with issues surrounding team mentality and leadership coming into question.

In a press conference after the 4-3 defeat to Juventus in which he said his players are feeling a "psychological descent" but there is still hope for the season.

Mourinho can still have a course to believe that he can still achieve a milestone this season with his Roma team in the Coppa Italia and the Europa Conference League as the race for Seria A title is all but over with the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, Napoli, AC Milan, and Atalanta being ahead of them.

Besides he has a point to prove with being unable to meet the expectation of the Roma hierarchy signaling his fall from the European top spot. The Europa and Coppa Italia is his only way to smoothen an already rough season and winning a two-cup cup competition will prove that Roma's man for long-term success. ✌✌✌
