World Champions Chelsea beat French side Lille 2-0 to give them a chance of progression to the quarter final of the champions league.

Goals from Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic gives Chelsea the win with the former starting ahead of Chelsea summer signing Romelu Lukaku who manager Thomas Tuchel said "needed a break".

Eight minutes into the match at stamford bridge and Kai Havertz headed in a corner taken by Hakim Ziyech as the blues dominated the first half of the match with sane Havertz guilty of missing clear chances to put the game beyond the French champions.

Second half was business as usual for the blues but there was a few negatives as Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech couldn't continue as both limped off the field and with the Carabao cup final on sunday, it could be a blow for the blues. Chelsea were in command of the game and got the second of the game from a counter attack as the ever present Ngolo Kante went on a surging run in which he laid the pass for Christian Pulisuc to score the second goal of the match.

PURE CLASS FROM THIAGO SILVA AND KANTE BUT THE LUKAKU CONUNDRUM CONTINUES

Chelsea win was an all round effort but performances from Silva and Kante was just phenomenal with the former as calm and self assuring as ever while also making a mockery of his age as he doesn't look like depreciating any time soon with his well timed blocks and tackles and his ability to snuff the danger. wow what a signing. While man of the match Ngolo Kante was back to his usual best with his ability to break up plays and create attacks while in constant motion all over the field.

Why didn't Thomas Tuchel start Lukaku? There will always be a sense of unease around Lukaku considering his big money move and his reputation as one of Europe's elite strikers but him not starting a match in the Champions League just about sum his recent form in the blues shirt. His stat in the Crystal Palace game last week with just seven touches overall heaps more pressure on the former Inter man as Kai Havertz got the nod to lead the attack ahead of him in the game against Lille but he will have a chance to prove his mettle against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
