It isn’t a crime to envision yourself achieving a goal, it never was and never will be. Dreams are one of those things that keeps you going and all you need is focus and hard work if you aim to make your dreams a reality. This was the case of FC Barcelona in their just concluded 2018/2019 season.

The men from Catalyuna has been known to be rulers of Spanish football for the past decade with little competition from eternal rivals and closest competitor, Real Madrid.

Real Madrid on the other hand seemed to relish granting domestic success to Barcelona while they dominate Europe and football’s most prestigious trophy, much to the envy of other giant teams, let alone fellow Spanish giants, Barcelona.

Barcelona has not gotten close to the Uefa Champions league title since after lifting it in 2015, their fifth in total. They appeared to have made the title their priority if not for anything but to show their rival Real Madrid that they aren’t just cut out for domestic successes.

Much money has been spent to bring in players and managers but still, Barcelona has fallen short of expectations on the big stage.

Ernesto Valverde was the coach recruited lastly to end their seemingly frustrating European short fallings. A coach without their renowned tiki-taka style of play on his C.V but with a solid tactics known for winning.

This just concluded season featured a hungry Barcelona gunning for the treble with their defence more solid than we have seen in recent past and an attack quite eager to put a goal in the back of your net at all cost.

Match by match Barcelona rode past teams home and abroad, with the help of a terrible Real Madrd, the hope for a Uefa Champions League turned into treble hope for the Catalans up until the last quarter of the season.

Liverpool of England returned in the second leg to overcome a 3 goal deficit and send Barcelona packing from the Uefa Champions League, a repetition of the same exit they faced the season before.

That was one hope dashed and a treble hope turned double but just like every other team would, they accepted their fate and chose to concentrate on enjoying the joy of the double.

The La Liga season ended with Barcelona crowned winners and it remained the Copa Del Rey final to be played with Valencia. A win would complete their double and they set out for the treasure only to come back empty handed and with a broken ship.

Valencia ran out 2-1 winners after scoring two first half goals which Lionel Messi could only manage to cancel one but could do nothing else to stop Valencia from snatching the Spanish cup from them and that was how a hope for a treble turned single.

Chants for the sacking coach Ernesto Valverde is currently flooding the internet with many calling out his non-tiki-taka style of play the reason why Barcelona has been unsuccessful the way they wanted, quite senseless if you ask me. However, whether Valverde gets sacked or not, it remains to be seen what happens to the Barcelona team this summer but one thing is certain now, dreams don’t always come to fulfilment.
