In the event of mass protests held by pro-independence parties in the Catalan region, the El Clasico scheduled to be played at the Camp Nou on Saturday, October 26th is likely to be postponed.

The Spanish Supreme Court ruled a nine to thirteen years prison sentence for nine of the leaders in charge of the pro independence parties. This in turn has put the region in disorder as protestants has been clashing with security officials ever since the court ruling.

The Spanish Football Federation is reported to have sent a message to Camp Nou, seeking a switch of fixtures in which they travel to Madrid on Saturday and play the March return leg at the Camp Nou but the Camp Nou board has turned down the offer.

Barcelona’s football body is said to accept a postponement but not a change of venue and has based their argument on sporting terms. Additionally, the Barcelona board sighted their travel to Prague in March for the Uefa Champions League and then returning only to travel to Madrid for an early El Clasico encounter as inconvenient for the team.

With three nights of unrest at Barcelona, a change of fixture to December looks very likely but the Spanish Football Federation will preside a meeting over the issue and release a statement by the weekend.
