Two weeks into Smith's reign at Aston Villa and it is beginning to turn ugly for him just as it did to his predecessors. Dean Smith was appointed head coach of Aston Villa on the 10th of October, 2018. He has overseen 3 matches so far, winning his first match and losing the next two. His latest loss was a 1-0 loss against Queens Park Rangers.

Aston Villa has experienced a very huge decline in recent years, from finishing 6th place in the English Premier League top flight to being relegated to the Championship, then to the relieving of the heavy burden from their former owner, Lerner's shoulder to the sacking of one coach after another. They currently sit 17th in the Championship table, 6 points above relegation zone with relegation to a lower division team on the cards.

Aston Villa has played 15 league matches this season, they have won 4, drawn 6 and lost 5. Leading to the sacking of former manager Steve Bruce and employing Dean Smith from Brentford.

Dean Smith got off to a good start with a win at home against Swansea, but recent losses at against Norwich and Queens Park Rangers are beginning to raise eyebrows as to whether he is the right man for the job.

MY THOUGHTS..

It is too early to judge Dean. His first game in charge ended with a win, it is oh-so glaring that Aston Villa needs reformation. Dean Smith might have lost his last two matches while trying out other tactics. Aston Villa's last two losses were as a result of bad luck and defensive mistakes, evident from the fact they have only lost by a narrow margin.

Judging from the past three matches, Dean Smith is trying to solidify the Aston Villa's defence before moving to other areas of concentration. Building a long lasting house starts with laying solid foundations. Dean Smith should be given the time and space he needs and as well the support if he is to move Aston Villa forward.

MY ADVICE..

My advice to Dean Smith is, considering the incessant decline Aston Villa find themselves in, criticisms are inevitable. There will surely be those calling for his sack and criticizing his tactics and flow with the team. But, he shouldn't falter or listen to critics as LOU HOLTZ once said:"You are never as good as anyone tells you when you win, and you are never as bad as they say when you lose". He should keep his head down, concentrate on improving Aston Villa and hopefully, things will get better for them.
