The Real Madrid summer transfer engagements left huge question marks hovering over the squad specifically regarding the midfield which later became weaker than it was before the transfer window opened.

Under Zidane’s watch, Marcos Llorente and Dani Ceballos, players who are very much expected to play a vital role in replacing the aging veterans in the midfield were sold off. James Rodriguez and several other stars would have followed suit but stayed put today either because the club didn’t meet up with the right bidders or a terrible injury which would find Asensio on the treatment table almost all season left the club with no other option but to let them remain.

Expectedly, with a team of Real Madrid’s caliber, a significant exit should come with a significant entry and French International Paul Pogba and Denmark’s Christian Eriksen were top of the Spanish club’s wanted list. It is reported and understood that Pogba is more favored in the sight of Zidane, the coach has constantly voiced out his admiration for the star midfielder but all hopes were dashed when the transfer window slammed shut with neither Paul nor Christian coming over to strengthen the middle.

Real Madrid have had to suffer for lack of creativity in the attacking third, they have been suffering same for quite a long time, since the days of post-Ozil. The connection between midfield and attack seriously lacks that player who has an owl-like vision for picking out the right defense splitting passes at the right time. Right now, according to my observation, between Christian and Paul, the French midfielder is the right man for the job. Yes, the French international doesn’t have the vision like Ozil but he is without doubt, a little below the German’s final ball qualities and the team would definitely make do of a player with his experience on the ball. Paul Pogba is a player who can quickly move the ball forward from the defense or midfield precisely , something that is currently lacking with Casemiro, the team's current holding midfielder. It is not enough that Casemiro hounds attackers and dispossesses them easily, he finds it difficult escaping a press and only move the ball sideways which negates the attacking flow of the team. Everyone who has watched Pogba can attest to his reliable abilities on the ball and certainly I know he will be a great addition to the Real Madrid squad.
