The West African country became the first to qualify for the knockout rounds after defeating Guinea.

The win against Guinea made it six points in two matches for Nigeria after defeating Burundi last time out. With six points, qualification to the knockout round was all but secured for the Super Eagles.

Coach Gernot Rohr would without doubt be glad his team have gained qualification with one more match left to spare but will certainly be concerned with the performances of his players especially in the attacking third.

Just like last time out against Burundi, the Super Eagles needed a single goal in the latter stages of the match to see off their opponents and being mindful of the fact that three points is the most important, against tougher and more attack-minded teams, one goal would definitely not be enough.

Rohr’s 4-2-3-1 formation appears to be leaving the team impotent in attack with Ighalo the lone striker starved for much of the encounter. They have been calls for him to play more with two strikers as it would give the team more options in attack without leaving them susceptible in defence but who know better how to handle the players available at his disposal other than the coach? I mean, he wouldn’t have held the job for this long if he weren’t fit for it, would he?

There is also a personal feeling that Rohr acknowledges the fact that teams like Senegal and Egypt would be keeping tabs on the Eagle’s performances and he, Rohr would be doing all he can to give them the wrong impression about his team as the tournament progresses.
