It was expected that Eden Hazard who is just returning from an injury he sustained late last year is going to be given a run out in today’s Copa Del Rey game against Real Sociedad but to our greatest surprise, the Belgian wizard is excluded from the match day squad despite completing three training sessions with the team since his return.
With him on the absent list are Dani Carvajal, Marco Asensio, Gareth Bale, Lucas Vasquez and Casemiro who are all injured except Casemiro who is missing out through illness.
Other members of the squad would be looking to take Zidane to his first ever semi final of the competition ever since he took up position as the manager of the club.
This is an opportunity for Zidane to win the only competition that has eluded him as a Madridsta, both as a player and a coach. The only time Zidane has won the Copa was in 2014 but he was an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti. The two times he has participated in the competition as a coach, he has been knocked out by lowly rated teams.
This time around, Zidane and his Real Madrid team appear to be on an unstoppable motion as they have gone 21 games without a defeat. A win against Real Sociedad is very much needed as it will further cement Real Madrid’s quest for their first ever treble as a football club.
