Injury situation at Real Madrid appears to be worse than we thought as the current news reaching us is that Marcelo Viera has been diagnosed with a muscle injury. This automatically leaves Real Madrid without a left back available as even the backup utility defender Nacho Fernandez is also unavailable due to injury.

All three defenders, Marcelo, Ferland Mendy and Nacho join Marco Asensio and Thubiat Courtois in the treatment table, leaving Zidane with no other option but to reach for his 3-5-2 preseason tactics and get his boys up and doing with it.

This 3-5-2 formation involves the presence of three central defenders, five midfielders which in most cases has left back and right back defenders as wing backs on both ends of the midfield five while two strikers lead the attack.

Coach Zinedine Zidane severally put this formation to the test and although it offers the team more attacking options, they were cut thin from the wings against a team with good wingers and quality tactical wing play.

The Disadvantages of the 3-5-2 Formation

The only two disadvantages of this formation is that it mainly involves a left back and a right back and the former position is one Real Madrid are currently lacking the player for it in the first team and the other disadvantages is that it leaves them vulnerable against tougher oppositions.

The attacking minded defenders of Real Madrid would definitely leave a huge hole at the back with the presence of just three central defenders and Zidane would have to ask for commitment and hard work from every single player in the team if he so wishes it to be fruitful.

Conclusion

I for one is happy with the 3-5-2 formation as I feel it will bring out more of Eden Hazard and provide a central cover that is solid provided the team stays composed for full 90 minutes.

I do not know how possible this claim is or if Zidane is even considering the formation but I do know one thing, the French Coach hasn’t deleted it from his tactical book.
