Real Madrid and their stars continue to appear on the highlights for the right reasons. My last post was about how solid their defence has been in recent years but in this article, I will be singling out one of their rock solid defenders who have stood out and undoubtedly looks like the strongest pillar holding the defense powerhouse.
FERLAND MENDY
On June 2019, Real Madrid announced that they have purchased Ferland Mendy from Lyon. The left back was purchased as a replacement for the aging Marcelo and he has since proved his case positive.
Mendy was first thought to be an understudy to Marcelo and play second fiddle for a while but it didn't take long for the left back to usurp the Brazilian and make the position his.
Ferland Mendy has since been a consistent presence at the left of the Real Madrid defence and with him on the pitch, Real Madrid can boast of a higher and better defensive record.
This season, Mendy has proven to possess a warrior presence at the heart of the Real Madrid defence. He ranks first in best defensive stats when on the pitch so far with 13 wins, 2 draws and 0 losses after 15 games, while the team has conceded just 7 goals in the process at a rate of 0.46 per game. That's in contrast to 1.2 goals conceded per game in 12 outings at the beginning of the season when the French left back was out injured. No other player in Europe has remained undefeated after at least 14 starts this season, with Keylor Navas of PSG, Robertson of Liverpool and Mount of Chelsea the only players to come close with 1 losses each.
Mendy has been known to be a rock at the back of the Real Madrid defense since his arrival and we are really glad to have him as one of us. We pray he remains healthy and fit, so he could continue to replicate his wonderful form on the pitch.
