The unbelievable and unexpected happened at the Etihad Stadium today as Manchester City succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Wolves FC. Making it the first time Guardiola loses a match without scoring for complete 90 minutes since arriving at the club.

It was bound to happen. Manchester City losing in front of their own crowd but nobody expected it to come at the hands of a lowly rated team in Wolves. The tigers scored two late goals, the 84th and 94th minute to hand Guardiola his worst match as a Manchester City manager.

An energetic and well drilled Wolves side stood firm to repel whatever attack Manchester City players were able to conjure. They were energetic and full of confidence. Attacking at will and defending like a unit. They waited patiently until the dying stages of the game for Manchester City to make a mistake in which they pounced on and took the lead. In the process of trying to equalize, Traore would get another opportunity to make it two for Wolves and condemn Guardiola to first home defeat in the premier league since his inception as manager of the club.

This loss against Wolves leaves Liverpool with an 8 point gap ahead of City heading into the second international break of the season. Is it safe to hand claim that Liverpool would be eventual leaders of this year’s English Premier League?
