With Barcelona dropping points this weekend and Atletico Madrid showing their strong urge for the title, it is time for Los Blancos to get really serious.

As a fan of Real Madrid, it is safe to assume that I am speaking the minds of every fan of the Capital of Spain club when I complain bitterly of Barcelona’s dominance of the Spanish top flight in more than a decade. It is fast becoming annoying considering the fact that this is a competition they have won more than any other Spanish team, 33. In the space of ten years, Real Madrid has won the league trophy twice while Barcelona has won seven times with Atletico Madrid winning the remaining one.

With the happenings all these years, it is clear that Real Madrid are far less concerned of the league trophy, as they channel all their efforts into winning the Europeans trophy, the Uefa Champions League. Probably because they are miles away from other teams in number of wins and this negligence has made the club appear weak in front of lowly rated teams and surrendered dominance to FCBarcelona.

A lot has been emphasized on this channeling of more efforts to Europe and less domestically and it appeared the team and its leaders are concentrating on returning the league title to the Bernabeu but it will take more than just thoughts and ambitions to make that happen, class and consistency is very much needed.

Real Madrid started the season with a win while Barcelona started with a loss. This in turn paved way for the whites to climb top spot and just when we thought it is the beginning of a consistent run up to the league title, they hit a brick wall very much sooner than expected. Real Valladolid drew Real Madrid in front of the Bernabeu crowds, a match that enraged many fans including myself after watching superstars waste chances upon chances and felt less concerned about it and also had to wait for Benzema to conjure a trick in the last 10 minutes of the match to open the scoring against a team that just gained entry into the top flight this season, how appalling.

Elsewhere in Europe, England precisely, Liverpool FC have come to the understanding that consistency is key to challenging for the English Premier League title and as such, they are making it certain not to drop a single point right until the end of the season if they wish to wrestle the league away from the ever consistent Manchester City team. With Barcelona dropping three points on matchday 1, Real Madrid utilized the opportunity and gained an upper hand over them only to reduce the gap by two in the second matchday. Now, Barcelona has dropped two more points last night, although it is going to be a tough travel, Real Madrid has got to show the spirit of a winning team and increase the gap against Barcelona with a win tonight at The Villareal Stadium.
