Soccer/ football is one of the most beautiful and exhilarating game of sports, just as it can be beautiful, fun and enjoying, it can also be exhausting.

There are eleven positions occupied by a player apiece on the pitch in the game of soccer, I have been a football lover for quite a long time and I have played in every position on the pitch. The position I find most tiring is the FULL BACK position(2 & 3) but I have engaged in different arguments when other football lovers/players has had an opinion that is contrary to mine.

Today, We are going to be taking a look at the positions on a pitch of soccer, using a standard 4-3-3 formation, starting from the Goalkeeping position to the Forwards, and see if we can all decide on which position is the most difficult and depleting.

GOALKEEPER(1)

The Goalkeeper is tasked with shielding every corner of the goal post, to ring further necessary words into your mind, a goalkeeper is shielding a post that is at least 8ft long and 24ft wide, oh yes it is that wide, too wide for a human to cover. Yet, some goalkeepers go as far as covering those angles, stretching out their hands, lungs and muscles just to keep a ball from going in.

Goalkeepers are also expected to have unrivalled reflexes, ability to reach a ball that is destined to fall in the back of the net quickly, ability to fall and stand up like you never fell, how easy is that? These are just the few expectations from a goalkeeper..

DEFENDERS

RIGHT BACK(2)

The player in this position needs to be pacey and very hardworking, it is a position that demands lung bursting runs up and down the field from the player, in other words, helping both the attack and defence.

LEFT BACK(3)

This position is similar to right back, the same fastness, strength and stamina is required from the player occupying this position, running up and down the field for 90minutes.

CENTRE BACK(5 & 6)

The players in this position are expected to block shots, mark out strikers and prevent them from scoring, intercept passes and win headers in the box. They are expected to tackle the ball greatly, and when faced with excellent attackers, they are expected to tackle cleanly and maintain discipline.Their position is directly in front of the goalie, making sure no ball gets closer to the goalie except they authorize it.

MIDFIELDERS

In this position, we find:

Defensive Midfielder(4)

Tasked with covering for the other players going forward, he is expected to hound every opponent aiming for his defenders, when up against excellent attackers, he is expected to break up attack after attack, hounding attackers from one end of his half to another, making it certain no ball reaches his defence without authorization.

CENTRAL MID FIELDERS(8 & 10)

We find right mid-fielder, left mid-fielder or box-to-box players in this position, players that are expected to play lovely passes to their attackers, join the attack and take few shots or hit in goals. He is also expected to press the opponents into making mistakes and help out with his defence. A mid-fielder is expected to be very talented with the ball as the centre of the pitch is basically theirs.

ATTACKERS

RIGHT-WINGER(7)

In this position, you find a player that is expected to be very fast, trickish with the ball and a good crosser too. They are tasked with performing lots of runs up and down the field, and their main task is to support attacks from the wings. Most players in this position are good dribblers, with an excellent dribbling talent, a winger can beat his opponent with ease on the wing and head for the goalie.

LEFT-WINGER(11)

This position is similar to right wing, the only difference is that he does his running, dribbling and crossing from the left side of the pitch.

CENTRE FORWARD(9)

A centre forward is the closest to the opponent's goal, more reason why they are expected to score the goals for the team, he is also expected to hold onto the ball for the other players to come up and assist the play. A centre forward is expected to be strong, possess good finishing, good in the air and skillful.

These are the main positions we have in soccer, which do you think is the most difficult and exhausting???
