The debate over Benzema’s long absence in the France national team has been resurrected after the Frenchman’s recent impressive performances for club Real Madrid.

Benzema last represented his country in October 8th 2015 in which he scored two goals in the win against Armenia. The striker was next involved in a sex scandal in which he was accused of blackmailing teammate Mathieu Valbuena and after series of investigations, coach of the France national team Didier Deschamps had no other option but to ditch the striker in other for his team to focus.

Ever since the eruption of that case, Benzema has not returned to represent his country on the football pitch and it’s been four years and few weeks since he last did and with his current form, the debate has risen over why the French striker is yet to be called up to the National team.

Recent interview with coach of Real Madrid Zinedine Zidane saw the Frenchman who enjoyed 1998 world cup success with current France coach Deschamps state that his striker Benzema deserves to be called back into the national team. However, Deschamps has replied with an unconvincing but rather expected reply. “He is the coach of the Real Madrid team so it is expected of him to speak like that”.

On my own part, it would be selfish so to imply but I am guessing Benzema’s absence from International duty has given him more time to take care of himself and improve his game judging from how much his goal ratio has increased since taking up the mantle from former attacker Cristiano Ronaldo.

It would be a great honor and joyous to see Benzema once again representing his country but according to how Deschamps has replied anytime Benzema’s issue comes up, I don’t think the striker would ever represent his country again, at least not when Deschamps is still head coach of the France National team.
