It was the month of May year 2005, the day I finally fall in love and decided to become a Manchester united fan. Precisely the 21st of May 2005, the day for the English FA Cup Final between Manchester United football club and Arsenal
It was all set to be a good day for my newly found football team to win the prestigious cup again. Arsenal Thierry Henry was injured and United have already beaten the Gunners three times that season, but football has they say cannot be predicted.
Manchester united dominated from the first minute, with the young duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney tormenting there opponent defense. United took the lead through Ferdinand after the Gunners goal keeper spilled a shot onto his path but it was correctly ruled as offside. The Red Devils also hit the woodwork and crossbar, with Arsenal only shot on target coming in the 96 minutes of extra time through their Dutch forward Van Persie. The match ended at extra time with the match goalless. The dominance of UNITED was so evident, that the Gunners German goalkeeper was declared as their best player on the field. The Gunners eventually won via penalty shootout with Lehman saving Paul Scholes shot.
There have been bad times for the team, like the 6-1 defeat at Old Trafford by our next door noisy neighbors (Manchester City), the two UEFA Champions League final defeat to Barcelona in Rome in 2009 and at Wembley stadium in England, the woeful David Moyes Era, who was eventually replaced by Ryan Giggs. In come the Dutch philosopher with is possession football with no output, he won the FA Cup (which has eluded the club since winning it in 2004) for the club. But there have been good times too, like 2008 Champions league win over Chelsea and the five (5) premierships won.
Although the quality of the football being played by my beloved team is nothing to write home about this days, I will never give up on United. Nearly all the great teams go through tough time, Real Madrid have been knocked out of the Champions league by teams below them before the appointment of Mourinho but now they are back at the top although they are going true another bad season, the same can be said of Juventus, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Ajax and even Barcelona. But the always fight their way back to the top. I believe United will do the same either with Jose Mourinho or not.
I heard of Scorum through friends (Tosyne2much and Zoneboy) about how great Scorum is and have been reading through the website and have come across a lot of good content. I joined to also contribute to this great community and together we can make it grow bigger.
