Previous Premier League official Dermot Gallagher says the choice to give France a punishment against Croatia in Sunday's World Cup last in Moscow was "100 for each penny" off-base.

Croatia's Ivan Perisic, whose perceivability was obstructed by Blaise Matuidi, was punished in the 38th moment after Antoine Griezmann's conveyance from a corner struck his arm, which was close by.

Arbitrator Nestor Pitana did not at first give the punishment, but rather was asked by the video right hand refs to audit the choice and, following quite a while of consideration, picked to grant the spot-kick.

100 for every penny not a punishment. He's far, dreadfully near the ball as it comes over the forward's head,

"It just strikes him - he doesn't move his hand to the ball, he has no goal of taking care of the ball.

"The law says it must be think. His arms aren't in an irregular position - it simply doesn't tick any cases."

Griezmann changed over the punishment to make it 2-1 to France, who finished the diversion as victors with extra objectives from Kylian Mbappe and Paul Pogba.
