The midweek Premier League fixtures are here. After an entertaining weekend made even more exciting by the latest drama episode from Stamford Bridge, we head into Round 28 of the English topflight. Four games are lined up to play today in various stadia across the country. Below, I take a short insight into each game and what to expect while also giving my own predictions of the games. I'll be giving away SCR15 to anyone who can beat me in predicting the direct 1X2 (Win, Draw, Lose) results of the four games playing today. More on that below.
⚽️ Cardiff City vs Everton
Two very unpredictable sides here. Sitting at 17th, Cardiff are finally looking like they could escape the drop zone. The Bluebirds won't have an easy job though with Southampton just a point behind them. Just like the title, this relegation fight could go down to the wire. On the other hand, everything about Everton has been bang average until they show up for the Merseyside derby on Sunday. The Toffees are 11th on 33points just 8points ahead of Cardiff. I have a feeling Marco Silva is yet to get the best out of this side, has anyone managed that anyway since David Moyes parked his bags to head down M62 and into a forgettable spell at Old Trafford?
Both sides head into this tie on the back of defeats. Interestingly, both sides lost their last match to Watford, Cardiff lost 5-1 while Everton recorded a narrow 1-0 loss. I am backing Everton to win this tie based on two reasons. 1. Everton haven't played in over two weeks and head into this tie "fresher" than their Welsh opponents. After recording two wins in their last six games, losing four, a win here will see Everton head into the local derby against title chasing Liverpool in a positive mood 2. Cardiff's defensive tactics. While Richarlison has netted 10 times and Sigurdsson 9 times for Everton, Cardiff's top scorers, who include defender Sol Bamba, have four goals apiece. Add to it the unfortunate passing away of their record signing Emiliano Sala (RIP) and the ineligibility of Oumar Niasse to play against his parent club. Something tells me Neil Warnock would bite off your hand if you offered him a draw on this one. However, I backing a narrow Everton win.
Prediction: Everton Win @2.15
⚽️ Huddersfield Town vs Wolverhampton
Huddersfield Town have been just awful this season. So much that the captain, David Wagner, abandoned ship earlier in the season. Town have lost all of their last five games and a total of 20 league games so far this season. Relegation looks like an inevitability to them. The Terriers have just managed to win 2 games all season, one at home and one on the road.
Wolves have been the giant slayers this season. However, the Molineaux Stadium side has apparently struggled to get results against perceived fellow "lesser" opposition. However, it is hard seeing this one going any other way apart from a win for the away side.
Wolves slipped down to eighth place after Watford thrashed Cardiff over the weekend. Santo's side only managed a 1-1 draw away to Bournemouth meaning they are still level on points with Watford but with an inferior goal difference.
Wolves are unbeaten in their last five Premier League games and will hope to get back on track against the league's bottom side here.A 0-2 win anyone?
Prediction: Wolverhampton Win @1.87
⚽️ Leicester City vs Brighton & Hove Albion
The toughest game to predict today. Both teams have not won any of their last six games heading into this tie. Leicester have parted way with manager Claudio Puel with ex-Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers expected to take charge. For this ties, first-team coaches Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler will take charge.
Leicester have not won any of their last seven games. The Foxes have lost six of those games. Brighton have only won one of their last 11 in the Premier League. Albion looked safe before Christmas but are now just three points above the bottom three.
Neither team are in good form and both sides will want to put an end to the losing streak and a point apiece would do no harm.
Prediction: Draw @3.50
⚽️ Newcastle United vs Burnley
Two teams that can ill afford to drop points here. After an impressive couple of seasons culminating in Europa League qualification, Burnley have been on a slump recently. At Newcastle, Rafa Benitez is making do with the resources he has at his disposal to steer the Magpies into another season in the topflight. How long owner Mike Ashley projects he can keep surviving dalliance with relegation with his resistance to invest in the squad, I honestly don't know.
Both teams forms has been on the up turn. And I backing a draw to play out here. Given the conservative approach I'd this ending somewherein the lines of a 0-0 or a 1-1. Reasoning; 1. 3 out of the last 5 meetings between this two sides have been draws. 2. Newcastle have only lost one of their last five league matches and currently sit four points clear of the bottom three. Burnley are unbeaten in eight topflight games and are two points ahead of Newcastle. With both teams have hit form at the right time to ease their relegation fears, I am expecting a close match here with a draw likely.
Prediction: Draw @3.35
