TEAM NEWS

Liverpool FC:

  • Liverpool head into this match high on confidence following their vital win in midweek that ensured they progressed in the Champions League. Joel Matip is ruled out for six weeks with a fractured collarbone.Trent Alexander-Arnold is a expected to miss out for a few weeks after picked up in injury in the closing stages of the midweek game. Joe Gomez is also out for six weeks with a fractured leg. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain is another long-term absentee having been ruled out for the entire season.
  • While Nathaniel Clyne is returned to training on Thursday it is expected that either James Milner or versatile Brazilian Fabinho will start at right-back. Clyne lacks match fitness and it would not be the best decision to throw him right into the deep end of things. This is likely to see Milner start on the right flank for the second game in succession after playing the same role against Bournemouth last weekend. Both summer signings Naby Keita and Fabinho started from the bench against Napoli and may both feature against Manchester United.

Man Utd:

  • Jose Mourinho had the comfort of shuffling his squad in midweek with Champions League progression to the last 16 already guaranteed.  The Red Devils had the chance to clinch their group but were downed 2-1 by Valencia CF. The United boss confirmed after the game in Spain that that Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Ashley Young, who made substitute appearances with United chasing that game, will start at Anfield.
  • Frenchman Paul Pogba failed to impress given the nod to start in Spain and he may have to contend with more time on the bench when United travel down the M62. Another United player who faces such uncertainty is striker Romelu Lukaku with his place in the team depending on the availability of Anthony Martial.
  • Diogo Dalot, who has been impressive so far, is likely to start at right-back ahead of veteran Antonio Valencia. The Portuguese boss also has a decision to make at left back with both Ashley Young and Luke Shaw vying for a starting spot. Chris Smalling picked up a knock but is expected to be fit in time to start against Liverpool. Phil Jones or Eric Bailly will partner him at the back with Victor Lindelof ruled out due to injury.

MATCH FACTS

  • In the Premier League, the hosts are unbeaten in the last 28 matches they have played at Anfield. The Reds have also kept a clean sheet in 11 out 12 matches at home. Currently, Liverpool boast of the best defensive record in the league this season having just let in six goals.
  • All the last six matches that Man Utd have played on the road in the league have produced  more than three goals each
  • Jurgen Klopp's side have kept a clean sheet in all the last 3 home matches they have played against Man Utd in all competitions. These matches have produced under 2.5 goals.
  • Mo Salah is the joint league top scorer having scored 10 goals in 17 games including a hat trick last time out against Bournemouth. The Egyptian is level with Arsenal's Aubameyang.
  • Jose Mourinho's side have scored at least 2 goals in their last 3 away league matches.
  • Anthony Martial, 10th on the charts, is Manchester United's top scorer having found the back of the net 7 times so far this season.

PREDICTIONS

It is hard to look at anything other than a Liverpool win. I am backing Liverpool to Win. The Reds are off a massive win in midweek that saw them into the last 16 in Europe. They are unbeaten in 28 matches in their Anfield fortress and are the only remaining unbeaten team this season. Liverpool have built arguably one of the best squads in the division. However, injuries are beginning to take a toll on the squad depth. The Reds are 16 points ahead of United and will fancy their chances against a leaky United defence.

Make no mistake, this won't be a walk in the park. Jose Mourinho is known for getting a result even when his team isn't at their best as we recently saw against Juventus in the Champions League. United are unbeaten in their last five matches against Liverpool, though four have been draws. Liverpool are yet to register a home win against United since September 2013. I am going for the Normal One outfoxing the Special One.

My Prediction:
Liverpool Win
Correct Score: 2-0
