Liverpool managed to lose it all in a single, most important match last season when they lost the finals of the Champions League. An exceptional run from The Reds ended with 2 terrible mistakes from their former goalkeeper Loris Sven Karius, who had a "bad day" on the worst possible day. But that's history and there is no use crying over spilt milk. Instead, Liverpool should focus on the new Champions League, with new players, new enthusiasm and the same goal. The title of European Champions. But first, they need to face the German titan, Bayern Münich.

Liverpool are currently in an exciting race with Manchester City for the title of Premier League champions, which deserves an article on its own. As of now, Liverpool are 2nd in the league with an overall record of 20-5-1 and 65 points. With 65 points, they are now tied with Man City in the title race, as it stands now, it's basically a waiting game of which of them will slip and fall first. Liverpool have done it once before, at the start of April, when they drew 2 in a row, so I guess now it's Manchester City's turn to do something similar. As of today, Liverpool has only 1 defeat in the Premier League this season, which means they are the only team in the Premier League that has not lost more than once. A lot of credit for their spectacular performances in recent years goes to Jürgen Klopp, who brought Liverpool to another level, and it's hard to deny that Liverpool are in the best form they have been in a while. From what I have seen from this English side, I would not be surprised if they achieve something special this year. At the end of the day, they are in a great position to do so.

On the Island, there is a tight race between Liverpool and Manchester City, meanwhile, about 1400 km (or 900 miles for our American readers) away, we have got another race going on. And it's a fierce one, between Bayern Münich and Borussia Dortmund. For several years we have been watching Bayern at the top of the league, so it's only fair we expected to see Bayern Münich sitting at the top of Bundesliga this season as well, but this is not the case. As a sports enthusiast, I am always excited to see the "top dogs" of any league getting challenged by another team. I guess it's always interesting to see how and if "the mighty will fall". As it stands now, Bayern Münich are holding a 15-3-4 record and 48 points in the Bundesliga, which puts them 3 points behind Borussia Dortmund. Just like the Liverpool vs. Manchester City race, this also deserves an article on its own, however, let's rather focus on the Champions League match ahead of us.

Liverpool managed to get into the playoffs of the Champions League by finishing 2nd in the Group C, which was arguably the hardest or at least the 2nd hardest group (behind group B) in this years group stage of the Champions League. In the mentioned group, Liverpool managed to advance due to a better goal difference compared to Napoli, who had the same record as the Reds. But why are we talking about the group stage here? Because I want to ease into one important information. Liverpool won all 3 home games. It started by 3:2 win against Paris SG, 4:0 win against Crvena Zvezda and ended with a 1:0 win over Napoli. Going back to the Premier League, Liverpool are undefeated in all of the13 home games with a +28-goal difference (35:7).

Now for the German champions. While Bayern Münich are a force to be reckoned with, they are simply not as good as they used to be. Bayern did manage to climb out of the group stage with ease, but I'm not particularly impressed by it. I mean, who did they need to face? Ajax, Benfica and Athens. Not a really hard group if you ask me. Furthermore, Ajax managed to draw against Bayern Münich 3:3.

Taking all into consideration, Liverpool are just too good this season, and excellent at the home stadium, while Bayern have not yet convinced me this season. With mediocre performances on the road and a 3:3 draw against Ajax in their recent Champions League match, this one should end in Liverpool's favour. A win here for Liverpool is highly important as it would bring them one step closer to the finals, for a re-examination and another chance to lift the Champions League trophy for the first time since 2005.

Prediction: Liverpool to win
