With mixed performances from Sporting Kansas and New England in the opening matches of the MLS, we will get a chance to see them going against each other on April 28th at Children's Mercy Park, Kansas City.
Sporting Kansas come into the upcoming fixture as the 8th team in the West with a 2-3-2 record behind them. While they only managed to win one match in the last 5, it was an incredible show from Peter Vermes’ men who trashed Montreal 7:1. Other than the incredible win, Sporting lost to San Jose Earthquakes last weekend and drew against Colorado Rapids (1:1), Cincinnati (1:1) and New York Red Bulls (2:2).
As we can see their results are all over the place, but that does not mean Kansas plays poorly. Far from it. I am in fact surprised they did not win against Red Bulls in a match Kansas dominated. Furthermore, their most recent result against San Jose (4:1) did not show the true colours either. It seems like a higher power is working against Kansas City, who play well, however, fail to show that through the results. Nonetheless, they will get a great chance to redeem themselves in the upcoming match against New England Revolution.
The visiting side, New England Revolution are just like Kansas suffering a case of "mixed results". Looking back at their last 5 fixtures, Revolution won against Minnesota (2:1) and New York Red Bulls (1:0), but failed to impress against Columbus Crew (1:0), Atlanta United (0:2) and Montreal Impact (0:3) only a couple of days ago.
While I had some positive things to say about Sporting Kansas, I was simply not impressed by Revolution. Without sugar-coating it, New England are one of the worst teams in the MLS. Additionally, the fact that they managed to produce a whopping zero shots on goal against Montreal tells its own story.
Kansas City, while failing to put up good results still play good football, and I would even go on and argue some bad luck had something to do with that. Nonetheless, they will get paired against one of the worst teams in the league this weekend, which should prove to be a great opportunity for Kansas to win and lif up their morale, which is exactly what this team needs to prove to the world they belong among the top teams in the West.
All in all, expect Kansas City to dominate this match, while New England Revolution stand by and watch as they did against Montreal. Not only am I confident Kansas has the team to defeat Revolution, but the home side should also win this one with style i.e. with more than just one goal.
Prediction: Sporting Kansas City -1.00 Asian Handicap
