The Italian "hosts" got off to the best start in a cautious and unlucky start, with Ciro Immobile having the first chance of the tournament. But the striker, who otherwise plays daily at the Stadio Olimpico for his Italian club Lazio, had not set the sights in the first half.

Roberto Mancini has selected a younger Italian team, but it was still the experienced stopper duo from Juventus, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini who started the match for "Gli Azzurri". The latter came in the middle of the first half to several big headers, but the 25-year-old Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir got the ball waved past the goal posts.

The Italians pressed more and more, and several times there was appeal by hand on the ball in the box, but a new line around the questionable hands rule has been laid, and therefore referee Danny Makkelie's whistle remained silent.

The Turks were rare guests in the first half, and did not have a single shot at Gianluigi Donnarumma. Conversely, the red-clad "guests" were pushed further and further back on the field, and several times all 11 men were caught around their own penalty area, to curb the Italian game around the field.

The second half started as the first ended. Italy in offensive dominance, pushing the Turks back on their own half of the field. And in the 52nd minute of the match, the Italians could breathe a sigh of relief. Manuel Locatelli found with a nice pass his midfield colleague Nicolo Barella who sent the ball in depth to Domenico Berardi on the right wing. The Sassuolo striker sent a flat cross into the small goal area after Ciro Immobile, but it was 23-year-old Merih Demiral who somewhat unfortunate came to tame the ball in his own net.

The score did not change the match picture. "Gli Azzurri" continued the heavy pressure, while the Turks made terrible play-up mistakes and began to discuss among themselves. With 66 minutes played, Leonardo Spinazzola came in from the right and could have had the tying goal, but the defenders successfully repelled the attack by Ugurcan Cakir. Unfortunately for the Turkish goalkeeper, the ball fell straight to Ciro Immobile's right foot, and he was able, in the most Ciro Immobile - like way, to put himself at the top of the European Championship top list.

The rest of the match was marked by the Olé ball. Italy crouched the ball around each other without the Turks being close to either it or any major goal chances. With 12 minutes left in the match, another play-up error in the Turkish defense led to it also being 3-0 to the Italian "hosts". Four fast passes, and then the ball lay by Lorenzo Insigne, who could easily send the European Championship ball in the rose.

3-0 was thus the result of the opening match, where Italy at times looked frighteningly strong against a weak Turkish team. On Saturday afternoon, Wales and Switzerland will play the second match in the European Championship group A., where with the big defeat to Turkey, both second and third place are open.
