Chelsea vs Liverpool

It’s been an amazing premier league matchday week so far, yesterday’s fixtures saw some expected and unexpected outcomes. Man City’s merciless 8-0 win against Watford at home and the Leicester come back win against Spurs, were the main highlights of yesterday’s matchday 6. Coming up later today is the continuation of premier league matchday 6 actions as we are about to witness the match of the week, a much-anticipated fixture and the biggest game of matchday 6. Chelsea will host Liverpool at the bridge for an epic clash. Both teams have met already this season in the Super Cup final, a game that saw Chelsea as the better side for most parts of the game but unfortunately lost on penalties.

Chelsea who are coming from their shocking defeat at home against Valencia in the champions league will be aiming to bounce back against Liverpool. The blues haven’t won a single game at home this season, the two they’ve played so far have all ended in disappointing draws, most especially their home draw against newly promoted Sheff United. This fixture against a Liverpool side who haven’t dropped a single point in the premier league this season, and against a team who have not lost in the premier league since last season where they only lost just 1 game throughout the season, will be a huge task for them regardless of playing at home. However, it is not an impossible task as Chelsea have all it takes to beat Liverpool.

In terms of expected formation and tactics, Chelsea might want to stick to the 3-4-3 formation which gives them solidity at the back or to utilize the 4-3-3 formation they’ve used most times this season. Frank Lampard knows his team isn’t defensively solid yet as they have conceded a lot of goals already this season. Playing against Liverpool is always a difficult task for any team in the world, so for Frank Lampard and Chelsea, it will be all about not giving spaces to the Liverpool front 3 who are dangerous when it comes to attacking and scoring goals, while also finding spaces and utilizing their qualities to hurt Liverpool.

Liverpool much like Chelsea are also coming from their champions league opener loss against Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo. Like we all know, The Reds are yet to lose a single game since their only single defeat last season and are currently the only team in the premier league to be on maximum points. They will be going into this game pretty confident to get a positive result at the bridge. Both teams share a lot of head-to-head together and like in previous seasons, it has always been a difficult battle for both teams.

In terms of expected formation and tactics, Liverpool will most likely setup in their usual 4-3-3 formation. Klopp will want his team to be focused in the game, knowing that if they fail to be at their best, they can lose the game. Their gameplan will be to not allowing the Chelsea players any time and space on the ball, and also using the pace and qualities of their front 3 to cause havoc to the Chelsea defense which hasn’t kept a clean sheet so far this season.

What do you think will be the outcome of this fixture?

I would love to read your thoughts and opinions… Enjoy your day.
