It was the continuation of the Copa America and final game of Group B. Argentina locked horn against Qatar in their final game of group B, for a chance to earn second spot at most.

Argentina who had their star man Messi in their squad and were one of the heavy favorites to win this competition before it began, have found themselves in a position where they have to play for pride and avoid finishing the group rock bottom.

Qatar are one of the underdogs of this competition, with no much expectations on them especially in a group that contained the likes of Argentina and Colombia. For them, anything above the expectations would be regarded as a major success.

Brief Post-Match Analyses

It was a great and lively atmosphere at the Arena do Gremio, as supporters were all buzzing with excitements.

Argentina setup up in a 4-3-3 formation, while Qatar setup in a 5-3-2 formation as well. The game began and immediately it was clear how badly the Argentines needed to win the game, as they started with very good intensity and forcing Qatar back. Their attacking efforts were finally rewarded with an early lead before securing the lead at the later stages of the game to leapfrog to second position on the group table.

Martinez scored the first goal for the Argentines 4 minutes into the game, capitalizing on a silly defensive error to give Argentina the early lead.

Aguero doubled the lead in the 82nd minute, a brilliant individual goal to seal the victory which put Argentina through to the quarterfinals.

Elsewhere at the Fonte Nova Arena, Colombia got the job done against Paraguay to finish the group with maximum points.

Gustavo Cuellar scored the only goal of the match in the 31st minute, a beautifully worked goal and a fantastic effort by Cuellar to beat the goalkeeper at his near post. A goal that ensured that the Colombians complete their group stage campaign with maximum points.

It was quite an interesting group stage campaign and the results today mean that both Colombia and Argentina will progress to the quarterfinals stage.

And that is a wrap…
