Wolves vs Chelsea

The premier league actions resume in just over a day, this Saturday after the boring period of non-club football activities due to the international break. Coming up this Saturday is the ever-awesome premier league matchday actions, as we anticipate an exciting matchday 5. Chelsea who are still searching for their first home win this season will be heading over to the Molineux Stadium to battle it out against the hungry Wolves.

Wolves have recently been known for being the top 6 nemeses and have already continued from where they stopped last season with their 1-1 draw against Man United this season. Last season was a pretty remarkable achievement for them, finishing just below the top 6 and earning a reasonable amount of points against the big 6 teams. They haven’t started this new season like they would have hoped for and are still yet to win a single game so far this season. Nevertheless, with just 4 games played so far, they are not in a disaster as they are technically just 2 points below most of the teams above them on the table. They will be hosting Chelsea in their first meeting this season as they will be hoping to replicate their form against Chelsea last season.

In terms of expected formation and tactics, Wolves will most likely setup in their favorite 3-5-2 formation. They are one of the strongest teams outside the top 6 like we saw last season due to the way they play and how difficult it is for teams to break them down. They love to sit back and stay very tight at the back, allow the opponent to come at them before unleashing their devastating counter-attacks and outside the box strikes. Going into this game against Chelsea, they will most likely do the same, allowing Chelsea to have the ball and try to hurt them through counter-attacks and long-range strikes.

Chelsea are having a mix of ups and downs at the moment and are still yet to win any home game this season. Their fixture against Sheff United prior to the international break saw them throw away a 2 goal lead to draw the game against the newly-promoted side at the bridge, their second draw at home this season. For Frank Lampard, it hasn’t been an easy ride as the Chelsea manager as expected, however, he will be hoping to get things right against a very difficult Wolves side this Saturday. With just one win in 4 games played so far, they will be aiming to earn their second win at the Molineux Stadium.

In terms of expected formation and tactics, Chelsea will most likely setup in a 4-3-3 formation. Lampard has made use of the 4-2-3-1 formation this season, however, the 4-3-3 seems to suit the team better and the players feel more comfortable playing in this system. Judging from how disappointing most of their results have been this season, Frank Lampard will want his team to kill the game off as quickly as possible and without allowing the opponent any chance to find their way back into the game. The defensive phase and dealing with counter-attacks have been mostly the issue for Chelsea this season, conceding a lot of goals so far. This is a huge issue for Frank Lampard going into this game against a very good Wolves side and he will be hoping to have a solution and to get the job done at the Molineux Stadium.

What do you think will be the outcome of this fixture?

I would love to read your thoughts and opinions… Enjoy your day.
