According to latest reports coming out today from a few sources, Chelsea have opened talks for the transfer of Coutinho, a player that was once one of the most feared players in the premier league few seasons ago, before joining Barcelona for a record fee. Coutinho hasn’t been the player he was when he was at Liverpool, however, it hasn’t stopped a few clubs from admiring his tremendous qualities on the pitch. The likes of Chelsea and a few other clubs have been interested in securing the services of the player as it looks like Barcelona are willing to let go of the player if the right price is met.

Chelsea have long time shown interest in bringing the player to the bridge, but somehow, they haven’t managed to further pursue their target. This season, it has been different as Lampard has somewhat identified the player as a quality addition to his team. Like we have seen so far this season in most of Chelsea’s game, they have struggled to break down teams that defend deep and lack a player who can strike an accurate shot from distance, something they’ve missed since the days of Lampard, Ballack, Drogba and a few others who had the ability to hit the ball from distance. With that being a thing of concern for Frank Lampard, it is clear why he is looking for a player who can fill in those boots when it comes to long-range strikes, an option that he wishes to have to have in his team when teams decided to pack the bus, which they most likely do against Chelsea.

According to these reports, Chelsea have opened talks for Coutinho. If this news is true, then it is great news as Coutinho is a top-quality player that still has a lot to offer. He knows the premier league very well from his days at Liverpool and without a doubt will be a great addition to this current Chelsea tea, who are doing pretty well already.

If he joins Chelsea, then Chelsea would be a force next season as they will have a player who is not only creative but also has an incredible shooting ability. This would mean that when teams decide to sit deep and park the bus, they can utilize his shooting prowess to give the opponent something to worry about. In my opinion, I think Chelsea should do everything possible to sign him, regardless of him not performing at the highest level since he left Liverpool, he can and will most likely improve this Chelsea team and give them a different dimension when it comes to approaching teams.

What do you think of Chelsea signing Coutinho?
