Top 4 Contenders

It was the final part of this week’s premier league matchday, as we had the opportunity to witness a different type of performances and results among the teams. The key focus is on the top 4 race and the contenders. Another crazy week for the teams involved in the race for the top 4 as all the contenders all dropped points in their respective fixtures.

Spurs dropping 3 points against the Hammers, Arsenal losing 3 straight matches in a row and dropping 3 crucial points away at Leicester City, Man United and Chelsea had to share a point each but dropped 2 massive points, as they all fail to boost their chances to achieve their target yet again.

This season has probably been the craziest top 4 race in the premier league history according to many, as the top 4 contenders have refused to secure their spot in the race, making the race still open till the final game of the season.

Brief Post-Match Analyses

Tottenham vs WestHam

It was a huge crowd and a lively atmosphere at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs lined up in a 4-1-2-1-2 formation while Westham lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation. The game began and both teams were trying to lay their mark on the game and be on the front foot in the London derby showdown. The hammers who are already in a stable position were not relaxing and really hungry for the 3 points away from home. It was a game of both ends, but it was the hammers who finally got the winning goal, to put the 3rd position technically up for grabs.

Antonio scored the winning goal in the 67th minute, firing the ball past the goalkeeper from close range to give the hammers derby bragging rights.

Leicester vs Arsenal

It was a hyped and exciting atmosphere at the King Power Stadium. Leicester setup in a 4-1-4-1 formation while Arsenal setup in a 4-4-2 formation. The game began in a rather unexpected manner as Leicester were showing more intent and desire and were on the front foot for most parts of the game. Arsenal had their moments, but it was Leicester who got the first goal early in the second half, before scoring 3 more to give the gunners their 3rd defeat in a row this season.

Tielemans scored the first goal for Leicester in the 59th minute, heading in from a perfect cross to put Leicester in front very early in the second half.

Vardy doubled the lead in the 86th minute, looping the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper in a 1v1 situation, and was quick enough to react and heading the second ball that came off the woodwork.

Vardy sealed the victory in the added minute of stoppage time, tapping in from close range to mount more misery for the gunners.

Man United vs Chelsea

It was a much-anticipated fixture, the game of the week in terms of the teams involved and what was at stake. The atmosphere at Old Trafford was great as the fans of both teams were all excited for the battle.

Man United lined up in a 4-3-1-2 formation while Chelsea setup in their usual 4-3-3 formation. The game began in high intensity from both teams, but it was Man United who were basically on the front foot during the early parts of the first half, and were finally rewarded with an early goal, but couldn’t prevent the blues from getting their equalizer before half time to ensure that both teams share the equal points.

Mata scored the first goal of the match in the 11th minute, firing in from close range after a very nice play by Man United to open up the Chelsea defence.

Alonso scored the equalizer in the 43rd minute, reacting quickly from the right place and the right time to tap in from a spilled ball by the goalkeeper.

It was a great premier league week, as we continue to witness the craziest top 4 race. The top 4 race is still very much open and any of the contenders can make it but it all depends on the results of the teams in the 3 and 4th positions in the remaining 2 games.

And that is a wrap…
