Manchester United

Yesterday was the all awaited showdown between the white side of London and the red side of Manchester. Spurs hosted Man United in the second to the last game of matchday 22, a game which everyone wanted to see how Solskjaer would fare in his first real test as the interim manager of Man United.

The time was here for two premier league heavy weights to lock horns for the second time this season to fight for the precious 3 points.

Spurs were on an amazing run of form prior to this game, winning most of their games with a high goal margin. They are at the moment trying to ensure that they secure their champions league spot for next season and also possibly challenge for the title if the opportunity comes which isn’t likely as things are at the moment.

Man United were having a very poor season before the appointment of Solskjaer to manage the club as an interim. However, ever since he took charge of the team, things have been going in the right direction for them and are now on a run of over 5 wins in a row.

It was the second time these two sides met this season, after their first meeting at Old Trafford which ended in a 3nil victory for Spurs.

Yesterday was a much-anticipated super Sunday matchday action, as always, lots of fans were waiting to see how both teams would fare for their second encounter of the season. It was the perfect time for both teams to battle it out, as both teams were in flying form.

This was a game both teams needed to get the 3 points to keep pushing for their targets this season, especially Man United who needed the 3 points the most to keep their top 4 ambitions alive and send a strong message to the teams below the top 2 position.

Post-Match Analyses

It was a cool Sunday evening at Wembley, the atmosphere was epic as always, the fans were all loud and lively.

On paper, these are two strong teams and was a game where both teams had equal capabilities to win the game and get the 3 points.

It was a match of opposite emotions for both teams and the fans, but the Man United fans will definitely want to experience the same emotion week-in week-out. It was Solskjaer’s first real test in charge of Man United and he deservedly passed the test and showed everyone that he is capable of taking the permanent job at the club.

Both teams setup in the same 4-1-2-1-2 formation, as Man United had to setup that way to counter and match the Spurs players man-to-man on the pitch.

The game began and both teams started with very good intensity, Spurs had more of the Stats, but it was United who got the only goal of the match late in the first half and held on to ensure that they took all the crucial 3 points home.

Man United Goal

Rashford scored the only goal and secured the crucial 3 points for the team. What a delicious pass from Pogba to find Rashford in space, who then took a superb first time touch before driving in a low effort into the bottom far corner to secure the win for United.

My Observation

Man United Show Glimpses of Old as They Send Strong Message to Other Top 4 Candidates

It is no longer news that Man United are currently fighting for top 4 finish this season due to their horrendous first part of the season under Jose. Now under the new manager, they have looked rejuvenated so far. They have won all games and just passed their first real test under the management of Solskjaer.

The game yesterday proves that they now mean business to enter into the top 4 and are not messing around. The victory serves as a strong message to other top 4 candidates that they are coming and are ready to fight till the end for the champions league spot next season.

And that is a wrap…

What do you think about the game… do you think the old Man United is back?
