It was another exciting Gold Cup showdown between two nations who proved so far that they deserved to be champions of this tournament. Mexico who narrowly got past Haiti in the semifinal stage, locked horn against USA, for a chance to regain the Gold Cup. It has been an amazing gold cup tournament so far, a much anticipated final between two of the strong favorite in this competition.
Mexico who entered this competition as one of the strong favorites were able to show that they are not only favorites on paper but also on the pitch. For them, it has been an amazing campaign so far, reaching the finals without losing a single point. Nevertheless, the still had a lot to do as they were also going up against not only the favorites as well, but against a team who haven’t dropped a single point in this competition. It was a very difficult encounter for the Mexicans but they showed that they are the best team in this competition as they narrowly got the job done at the Soldier Field to clinch the Gold Cup.
USA also entered into the competition as one of the strong favorites in this tournament and like Mexico, proved that they were worthy to claim the gold cup, not only on paper, but on the pitch, going all the way to the finals without losing a single point. It has been a great outing for the Americans, putting up some great performances in this competition so far but will be heavily disappointed to narrowly be on the losing side after all the hardwork and expectations. Nevertheless, they will be proud for their performances and will live to fight again next time.
Brief Post-Match Analyses
It was a great and lively atmosphere at the Soldier Field, as supporters were all buzzing with excitements.
Both nations setup in the same 4-3-3 formation. The game began and USA were already showing their intentions and almost taking the lead very early in the game. Mexico also had their moments in the first half, but the big one came late in the game, a goal that eventually became the match-winning goal to clinch the cup.
Dos Santos scored the only goal of the match in the 73rd minute, putting in a beautifully placed effort into the top left corner to give the Mexicans the crucial lead which eventually became the goal that gives them the Gold Cup.

Christian Pulisic who will be joining his new club soon has been named the best young player of the tournament. His performances and contributions to the USA team has been nothing less than amazing, helping his side reach the finals and like always put up a great performance against Mexico in the finals even though he should have done better with his first-half effort early in the game. Nevertheless, it was a great tournament for the young Chelsea boy who has proved once again his qualities and is ready to take up the challenges that await him in the premier league.
