Yesterday was a very proud moment for super Frank and his Derby County side who put up an amazing performance against Chelsea. It was a match that saw the whole Chelsea crowed give him a warm welcome and chanted his name in most part of the game.

It was an emotional game for him as a manager, returning to the ground that he once called home, a ground that he shared a lot of memories.

Before the game against the blue side of London, a lot of fans were patiently waiting for that match encounter to witness how he was going to fare against the club that is so dear to him in terms of what he achieved as a player. It finally turned out to be a really proud moment for him as a manager, as his team put up a top performance and could have won the game actually.

POST MATCH ANALYSIS

The atmosphere before and during the game was as expected, the whole Chelsea fans cheering and creating a warm atmosphere for Lampard.

The game began and immediately, Derby County began the game with high intensity, pressing the Chelsea defenders and trying to win the ball high up the pitch. They passed the ball around beautifully and had some couple of good opportunities.

Chelsea began to slowly do a few things right and got the first goal very early in the first half before the game turned out to be like two persons texting themselves on a slightly slow network. It was a game of immediate reply.

Chelsea first goal:

No one on the stadium would have wanted the first goal to come from that source, an own goal by one of Chelsea loan players who was given permission to play against his parent club. A low cross by Zappacosta into the box was deflected into the net for an own goal. 1 nil to Chelsea.

Derby County first goal:

What an error from Cahil who slipped at the crucial moment. A through pass was played onto the path of the Derby County forward, Cahil who was supposed to defend that ball, slipped and the rest was history… A very cool finish from the Derby County player to make it 1-1.

Chelsea second goal:

Another own goal by another Derby county defender who deflected the ball into his own net following another low from Zappacosta.

Derby County second goal:

We were having a game of immediate reply. 8 minutes after the own goal, the ball was on the feet of the Mason Mount, another Chelsea loan player who was allowed to feature in this game, played in a beautiful low cross pass for Martyn Waghorn to just tap the ball into the net for 2-2.

Chelsea third goal:

This time, Chelsea scored a goal by themselves. Fabregas fired the ball home for the third and the winner after what was said to be a foul that led to the Chelsea goal.

MY OBSERVATION/TALKING POINTS

Mason Mount is ready to play for Chelsea:

This game showed that Mason Mount who was allowed to feature in yesterday’s game is a quality player and is definitely ready to play at the top level even at a very young age. He has the mindset and abilities to succeed if given the chance.

Chelsea second 11 isn’t in sync with sarriball:

The game against Derby was a prove that the Chelsea second 11 squad isn’t in sync to the Sarri wants his team to play. A lot of wrong and slow passes and the defence wasn’t having a good day at all. The two goals conceded were as a result of very poor defending by Chelsea.

Can Fikayo Tomori recover from the own goal scored for his parent club?

His own goal for his parent club will surely be in his memories. I can imagine the feeling to score an own goal for your parent club in front of thousands and millions worldwide. Will he get it over him quickly, well we hope. The good news is that he wasn’t the only one who scored an own goal in that match and that will really help him get over it quickly.

Derby County are playing really good football

As we all saw yesterday, Derby County is playing really well. The way the press and pass the ball with great intensity is very good. If they keep playing the way they do, they will find themselves in the EPL very soon.

And that is a wrap…

What do you think about the game?...
