The premier league is like a citrus tree, it is sometimes sweet like the oranges and the tangerines, or sour like the lemons and the limes or even a blend of mixed emotions like the mixture of both the sweet and the sour. All these make the premier league what it is today and regarded as the most exciting and the most watched league in the world.

Talking about the most exciting and the most watched league in the world, the EPL has it all… excitement, tension, heartbreak, entertainment, surprise, happiness, boring, sadness, frustration. You will find all the possible fans emotions during premier league matchdays. All these emotions are what makes the premier league so interesting.

Known as the fastest league in the world, nothing is over in the EPL until the referee blows the final whistle. Teams fight until the end and can overturn a 3 goal deficit in less than 20 minutes to go.

Let’s have a little bit of fun and take a look at the different emotions and accompany them with some of the premier league matches played this season.

THE DIFFERENT EMOTIONS AND ACCOMPANYING EPL MATCHES

Anticipation:

The game between Liverpool and Man City was the most anticipated fixture up until the game was played, every football fan wanted to witness the battle between the two title contenders. Many pundits and most especially the media clearly regard Man City and Liverpool as clear title favorites coupled with the fact that both teams have been outstanding this season. All the buzz and hype really made this fixture as the most anticipated fixture.

Enjoyment:

The match between Chelsea and Liverpool at the bridge was undoubtedly regarded by many as the most entertaining game of football played this season, even both managers applauded themselves after the game. The game ended in a 1-1 draw as both teams played high level attacking football and equally canceled themselves out. Sarri and Klopp are two managers are known for their attacking style of football and both teams really displayed great attacking football.

Joy:

When it comes to Joy, a lot of the top teams’ fans most especially the current top 3 teams on the premier league table surely experience this type of emotions a lot. I’m pretty sure that Man City, Liverpool, and Chelsea fans have been really happy this season :)

Sadness:

The standout team for this type of emotion is Man United. This is the emotion that most, if not all the Man United fans are experiencing this season. Their team have been performing poorly and have lost and drawn most of their games this season. Their match against Westham was the saddest games for the Man United fans as they were beaten 3 goals to 1 by the hammers.

Surprise:

I’ll have to say the match between Wolves vs Man City which ended in a 1-1 draw was a big surprise to not only the city fans but to many other fans too. Before the game, city were already outstanding in terms of performance and goal scoring and a lot of people thought it was going to be a walkover match for city but the match later turned out not to be what we all expected to happen.

Heartbreak:

This is another emotion that is experienced a lot in the premier league and the match between Manchester United against Newcastle proved that. Newcastle were already 2 nil up in the opening 10 minutes of the game only to lose the game 3-2 in the last 25 minutes of the game. Really heartbreaking for the Newcastle fans.

Frustration:

This type of emotion is common for fans when teams who are clearly dominating the game are not able to find a breakthrough. The match between Newcastle vs Chelsea is a typical example of a match that was really frustrating for the Chelsea fans. It took Chelsea a 79th-minute penalty and an 87th-minute own goal to be able to take all 3points after creating chances upon chances throughout the game and were only able to score just 2 goals. In the end, the frustration was eliminated by the victory and every Chelsea fan had smiles on their faces.

Now going back to the topic :)… As football fans, we all know how it feels to watch our favorite team play. The feeling is so immense, but immediately the game ends, there’s always going to be one emotion.

For me, the emotions premier league fans show after a match can be summarized into 3 main types just like the citrus tree. It could be sweet like the oranges and tangerines, sour like the lemons and limes or a blend of sweet and sour.

As a fan, you are filled with joy when the team you support does the job and comes out victorious, the feeling is just sweet… but when the opposite is the case and your team is on the losing side, everything becomes sour.

There are also times where you are neither happy nor sad after a match like a bland sweet-sour drink. This mixed emotion is mostly experienced after a draw match, especially when both teams had equal chances to win the game like the Chelsea vs Liverpool game.

Before I round up this post, I will like to digress a bit and talk about what makes the premier league the most exciting and the most watched league in the world.

WHY THE PREMIER LEAGUE IS REGARDED AS THE MOST EXCITING AND THE MOST WATCHED LEAGUE IN THE WORLD

Drama:

When it comes to drama, the EPL has it all… you will find characters, personalities, funny moments, fights, exchange of words, tears, moments of extreme joy, players, talks, transfers etc. The drama is never over, each week has its own drama and all these add up to making the EPL so amazing.

Media:

The English media also contribute to making the EPL what it is today… Rumors, the press, talks, pundits, new etc. all play a huge role in the premier league. Among other leagues in the world, the English media seems to be the one that makes the most headlines and create the most talking points.

Coverage:

This is an area where the EPL excels… the EPL is shown in most countries which makes it easy for fans who are not able to be at the game live to watch and experience the game anywhere in the world.

Intensity:

When it comes to game intensity, there is no rival to the EPL. The speed of the game is phenomenal which makes every match open until the final whistle.

Determination:

In most leagues, once a team goes 3 goals up, it is game over… but in the EPL, the match is still open. It is mostly in the EPL where you see teams overturning a 3 goal deficit and coming back to win the game by 4 goals to 3 in less than 20 minutes to go. That’s really amazing… at least from a neutral point of view… hehe :D

Fight for the title:

In the premier league, there are 6 teams who are fighting for the premier league title unlike the Italian league, Spanish league, French League and the German League where you have 2 teams at most fighting for the title. These fights make every single point very important for teams who are fighting to win the title.

Fight for champions league spot:

This is also a very difficult aspect of the EPL. There are about 8 teams who are constantly fighting for a place in the champions league. These extreme competition increases the emotions in every game and makes every points crucial.

Relegation battle:

The English league is where you find 1 point separating teams in the relegation zone and teams above the relegation zone. The battle isn’t over until the final whistle of the final match of the season.

All these points I listed above makes the EPL what it is today and no surprise why it is regarded as the most exciting league and the most watched league in the world…

And that is a wrap…

What do you think… Do you think the premier league is the best league in the world?

I would like to read your own opinions… have a pleasant weekend.
