It has been an amazing champions league week and so far, the results have been fully deserved. Attention now turns to the Europa League which will be kicking off later today and as usual, there are lots of exciting fixtures coming up. This Europa league has gotten even more exciting as some of the teams who participated in the champions league group stage round have found themselves in the Europa League, making the competition even more fun and at the same time more competitive. Arsenal will be taking on Olympiacos at the Karaiskakis Stadium later today in their Europa League round of 32 first leg showdown.
Olympiacos like Arsenal are also doing pretty well in this Europa League competition so far and are definitely relishing the opportunity to go through to the next round. They are doing well in their domestic league as well, with 2 points lead at the top. While they are competing against PAOK for the title in the league, they are also aiming to win the Europa League. This means that they will most likely put in a lot of efforts to ensure that they send the Gunners packing on or before they meet again for the second leg at the Emirate Stadium. Nonetheless, this game against Arsenal will be a very difficult game for them as well, and of course, they know that they need to put in a top-level performance to get a positive result at home or else they end up giving Arsenal the advantage going into the second leg at the Emirates Stadium.
Olympiakos are expected to set up in a 4-4-2 formation. As a home side, we should expect to see Olympiakos try to control major aspect of the game or create more of the chances. They will definitely be going into this game to get the crucial win so as to put themselves in a good position for the second leg.
Arsenal have finally gotten back to winning ways, a much-needed win for them in their last premier league game as they aim to carry that same momentum into this game. So far, they are doing pretty well in their Europa League campaign and will be aiming to reach the finals like they did last season. They will be going up against Olympiacos away from home in this first leg meeting and will be aiming to get a positive result, if possible get the job done at the Karaiskakis Stadium, to increase their chances of going through to the next round when they host Olympiacos at home for the return leg fixture.
The Gunners are expected to set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. This is a very tricky game for them but at the same time, a game that they can definitely win if they put in a top-quality performance. Arsenal will be looking to dominate possession and as always, try to find spaces in the game to create chances.
What do you think will be the outcome of this fixture?
