It was a much-awaited final between two inform teams this season. Barcelona who lifted the La Liga title, had another chance to add another piece of silverware into their cabinet and to conclude the season on a high, after their disappointing and shocking semifinal exit against Liverpool in their champions league, locked horn against Valencia who have been doing well this season and were also at the losing end against Arsenal in the Europa League semifinals, for a chance for both teams to end their season with a trophy. For Barcelona, it was yet another trophy to be won and also they are already used to the competition while For Valencia, they are not regular faces at this stage of the competition and it was all about creating history.

Brief Post-Match Analyses

It was a great atmosphere at the Benito Villamarin as usual, the whole stadium was filled with fans all excited for the game.

Barcelona lineup in a 4-1-4-1 formation, while Valencia lined up in a 4-4-2 formation. The game began and both teams were really trying to make their mark in the game. Barcelona were with most of the possession but it was Valencia who nearly scored the first goal very early in the game and was unfortunate to have the ball cleared off the line. Nevertheless, Valencia finally got the deserved goal before scoring the second goal that became the winning goal for them to lift the trophy.

Gamiero scored the first goal for Valencia in the 21st minute, receiving the ball inside the box and doing very well to beat his marker before dispatching the ball into the net.

Rodrigo doubled the lead in the 33rd minute, heading the ball into the unguarded net after a very good cross.

Messi gave hope to the Catalans in the 73rd minute, scoring an unusual tap in goal but wasn’t enough to turn the table around. An unusual loss for Barcelona who are known to hardly lose finals.

It was a great game of football by both teams, for Barcelona, it was a disappointing loss as they are known to hardly come out second best in any final. For Valencia, it was a great victory for them and a moment that will always be remembered. They are the Copa del Rey winners and will be looking to doing more great things next season.
