Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea

This is another very interesting talking point about Man United after their rejuvenated form so far and their ambitious top 4 race this season. It is no longer news about the Man United’s ambitions to qualify for the champions league next season after finding their feet again from their very poor first half of the season.

Before the season began, they surely had a much bigger target for the season, but all those targets were quick to fade away after their terrible first half of the season under Mourinho, it was too bad that even a top 4 finish looked like an impossible task. However, after the appointment of Solskjaer, things are already getting back in shape for them and they are now also in the mix as one of the favorites to finish in the top 4 positions this season.

Before I give my own opinion about this interesting talking point, let me quickly talk about the other serious contenders for the top 4 spots…

Obviously, Liverpool and Man City are out of the picture for now and have probably cemented their place in the top 2 positions. As it stands at the moment, no one knows who will finish above or below the other in this title race battle. Even though Liverpool are in a very good position with 4 points clear at the top, It is still not enough to declare them the winner yet as it will only take a slip in two games to wipe the lead off. Let’s see what happens till the end of the season.

Looking at the table currently, the real candidates for the top 4 positions are basically Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man United.

For Spurs, they started the season on the low side, but later found their feet again and went on a great run of heavy victories prior to their defeat against Man United last weekend. They are currently in 3rd position, just a point above Chelsea who are in 4th. Looking at the way they have performed so far, they are one of the favorites to secure a top 4 finish this season.

For Chelsea, they began the season as one of the premier league title candidates but later had a few bits of ups and downs which has halted their hope of challenging the likes of Liverpool and City for the ultimate prize. As it stands now for them, the top 4 is their main priority and since this is Sarri’s first season in the premier league, securing a champions league spot will be regarded as a success for them. They are currently sitting in 4th place, a point behind Spurs and 6 points above Arsenal and Man United who are in 5th and 6th respectively.

For Arsenal, they started the season with two defeats in a row, but later picked up quickly and went on an amazing unbeaten run before slacking again with some few ups and downs and losing some important games to find themselves 6 points behind the top 4 position and now level on points with United. This is Emery’s first season in the premier league, similar to Chelsea’s Sarri, his main target is to try to get his team in the champions league spot for next season which will be considered a huge success for them.

For Man United, they looked lost at the first part of the season, but are now rejuvenated under the new manager. They are now on a great run of over 5 wins in a row and have now moved to 6th and level on points with Arsenal, which means they are now also just 6 points below Chelsea. Their victory over Spurs at the weekend was a real proof that they mean business and are serious contenders for the top 4 position which is their major target this season.

Looking at all the serious contenders for the top 4 positions, the question still remains; who will Man United displace to finish top 4?

My Opinion

For me, this is almost impossible to tell as things are at the moment. Looking at how rejuvenated they are now and how things have gone for them so far, I can clearly say that they will definitely fight for the champions league spot until the end of the season, but whether they will go on to displace any of the teams currently in the top 4 positions is still a probability.

Yes they are currently 6 points below the top 4, but in the premier league, 6 points is nothing as it only takes 2 losses to wipe the points out, so basically, Man United are technically in the race for top 4 finish, but it all depends on the teams in those positions and also if Man United can win all their remaining games too. Therefore, if Tottenham and Chelsea don’t slip, then there’s nothing both Arsenal and Man United can do about it even if they win all their remaining games of the season.

And that is a wrap…

Which team do you think Man United will displace to finish top 4 or do you think their rejuvenation will be in Vain?

I would love to read your own opinions… Enjoy your day.
