There is a little over a month left before the Super Cup and the start of the 2019-2020 Belgian Jupiler League. I continue to stay updated on all the developments and transfers during the off-season. There was a lot of news last week so I have only covered everything up to June 13th.

BELGIAN LEAGUE OFF-SEASON NEWS UPDATE

Mercier Leaving Cercle Brugge

It looks like Cercle Brugge will have a big facelift next season with many key players leaving. One of them is Mercier who will leave for a 2nd division team. I had him marked as a key player last season and their performance usually dropped drastically if he was not in the team. One of the revelations 21-year-old Issa Marega also brought about a lot of interest from other teams. Cercle wants to keep him on board but it's not sure yet if he will extend his contract.

Only 4 players Must stay with Anderlecht

Kompany is helping with the selection of the team for next season and from what it looks like, only 4 players are in the must stay category for him. Those players are Verschaeren, Amuzu, Bornauw & Doku. This means players like Kums, Didillion, Saelemaekers are allowed to leave if there is a good offer on them. It will be interesting to see the incoming transfers of Anderlecht during the next month. According to an insider, Kompany will give the names he wants and the board will do everything they can to get those players. Also, some of the youth players were added to the first team.

  • Killian Sardella (17-year-old defender)
  • Antoine Colassin (18-year-old attacker)
  • Thierry Lutonda (18-year-old left back)

Wesley to Aston Villa

Club Brugge striker Wesley landed a transfer for 25 Million to Premier League Team Aston Villa. This transfer amount is a new record for Club Brugge.

Bongonda Transfer Official

Genk not officially has his first Summer Transfer with Bongonda joining the team. They paid 7 million which is a new record between Belgian teams. (the last record was Rezaei from Charleroi to Club Brugge for 5 Million which so far has been a big flop)

Date Final verdict 25 June

The appeal on the verdict of the match-fixing saga where Mechelen relegates, Beerschot Promotes and Waasland stays in 1st division with Lokeren as the team to relegate will know the final verdict on the 25th of June. It is still possible that Lokeren will play in 1st division instead of Beerschot.

Boljevic to Standard

Standard will pay 2.5 Million (inclusive bonuses) for Waasland Beveren Player Boljevic who- is a striker and should replace Djenepo. Standard is also working on a construction to keep Vanheusden who wants to stay in the team this year.

I'll do my best to go through all the news I missed the last couple of days and give more regular updates...
