The Super Eagles of Nigeria takes on the Mediterranean Knights of Libya today, Saturday, 13th October, 2018 at the Nest of Champions in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The fixture serves as an opportunity for the Nigerian team to go top of the visiting team, on their group E table for Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Super Eagles, have never lost to the Mediterranean Knights and it could remain that way when they meet today in the Land of Promise, which is the state of origin of Udinese FC and Nigeria's central defender, William Troost Ekong.

The team lead by a veteran coach on the African continent, Gernot Rohr bounced back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Seychelles away from home after suffering a 0-2 defeat in their opening game at home against South Africa.

The results put the three-time African champions in third spot on the table with three points from two games behind South Africa and Libya who are tied on four points.

Apart from the meeting in the CAF Nations Championship which is strictly for home-based players, the only meeting between Nigeria and Libya was in 2005 in a friendly game which the Super Eagles won and given that they have failed to qualify for the last two editions of the tournament, the West Africans will be looking to claim the maximum three points at home to boost their chances of qualifying for the 2019 edition that will either take place in Cameroon or elsewhere in Africa depending on CAF resolution.

Omar Al-Marime will be leading Libya for the encounter after Adel Amrouche resigned as head coach of the side. They top the group with four points after a 5-0 win against Seychelles and a barren draw with South Africa.

My Prediction:

Having seen the Super Eagles players engaged in matches across Europe top football clubs, my final verdict is Nigeria 2 - 0 Libya. Bet responsibly! Follow @cutymeni
