Rayo Vallecano's Vallecas stadium will be closed until mid-October due to renovation work.

After a meeting held between the Spanish club, the Madrid local authority and LaLiga, an agreement was reached to close the stadium, at least, until October 15.

The construction company Fonsan, which is carrying out the renovation work, have requested an extension to the regional government of Madrid, and it has already been accepted.

And the idea to close the ground has been immediate: not allowing public access to its stands until the renovation work is finalized.

The property of the Estadio de Vallecas belongs to the Community of Madrid; however the interior maintenance corresponds to the club, which has generated issues, as their last match in the domestic league, the stadium was in horrible conditions with poor lighting, bars on the seats and dirt in every corner.

Furthermore, the renovation work is worth 1.2 million euros, and this money will go towards reducing the humidity within the stadium, improving the stands and the exits.

The LaLiga club were forced to close down the stadium due to an incident on the first matchday of the season, which was against Sevilla.

A child suffered a mishap after falling over some debris that was left in the stands; however, he luckily he did not get injured.

Since then, a wave of protests began among the fans which resulted in the closure of the field.

The options that are shuffled at this time to solve the problem depend on LaLiga, as they would be responsible in changing the schedules in order for Rayo Vallecano to avoid playing at home or to even look for another stadium in the Community of Madrid.

And the last option, although the least likely at this time, would be to play behind closed doors. The game involved are Rayo-Athletic Club, Rayo-Alaves and Rayo-Espanyol.
