What you see in the picture on the left is a piece of Italian football history, the cover of a sticker album completed almost entirely by my mother, AC Milan fan, gave it to me a couple of years ago and I consider it a real relic to take care. As a child I loved to buy the stickers, I think I spent a lot of money in those sealed packages that, once opened, could give me great happiness or just as big sadness. If I found those that I have missed I was over the moon, I could not wait to stick them carefully and in the right place on the album, the other side was when I found the duplicates, I was not really happy, indeed, but I tried to exchange them immediately with friends and classmates with those I missed. Thinking back, I made absurd trading, for a missing figurine I came to give 10 or 20 in return, maybe even 40 but the satisfaction of finishing the album and being able to be cool with friends was a special feeling.
Quella che vedete nella foto in alto a sinistra è un pezzo di storia del calcio nostrano, la copertina di un album di figurine completato quasi interamente da mia mamma, tifosa del Milan, me l'ha regalato un paio di anni fa e lo considero un vero e proprio cimelio da conservare con cura.
Da piccolo amavo comprare le figurine, penso di aver speso tantissimi soldi in quei pacchetti sigillati che, una volta aperti, mi potevano regalare grandi felicità o altrettanto grandi delusioni.
Se trovavo quelle che mi mancavano ero al settimo cielo, non vedevo l'ora di appiccicarle con cura, e nel posto giusto sull'album, l'altro rovescio della medaglia era quando trovavo i doppioni, non ero proprio felice, anzi, ma cercavo di scambiarle subito con amici e compagni di scuola con quelle che mi mancavano. Ripensandoci, facevo baratti assurdi, per una figurina mancante arrivavo a darne 10 o 20 in cambio, a volte addirittura 40, la soddisfazione di finire l'album e del poterti pavoneggiare con gli amici era una una sensazione indescrivibile.
The first known figurine in the world was produced by the french supermarkets chain called Bon Marchè of 1866, over the years things have changed a lot, the first Panini album (that in Italy is a must about stickers) is dated 1960, the album in the picture above is just 4 years after their birth, at that age did not exist the self-adhesive and must be glued with Coccoina, a glue very similar to the walls plaster, with a brush spread on the back of the sticker and glued in the appropriate space, that give to the pages that "wave effect". In the '90s they choose to change with the new plastic cards, but lately there has been a return to old traditions, returning to self-adhesive. Regarding the album in question, that of the sixty-second edition of the Italian football league, I took some pictures of his pages and now I'm going to show you a bit, starting from the Italian Champions of the time, Bologna, that winning its seventh Scudetto and his top scorer of the tournament, which was the Danish Harald Nielsen scoring 21 goals.
La prima figurina conosciuta è prodotta dalla catena francese di supermercati Bon Marchè del 1866, durante gli anni le cose sono cambiate parecchio, il primo album della Panini è datato 1960, quello che vedete nelle foto e di appena 4 anni dopo la loro nascita, all'epoca non esistevano le autoadesive e bisogna incollarle con la Coccoina, una colla molto simile allo stucco per le pareti, con un pennellino si spalmava sul retro della figurina e si incollava nell'apposito spazio. Molti anni dopo hanno preso il sopravvento le carte plastificate, ma ultimamente si è avuto un ritorno alle vecchie tradizioni, tornando alle autoadesive.
Riguardo all'album in questione, quello della sessantaduesima edizione del campionato italiano di calcio, ho fatto qualche foto alle sue pagine ed ora passo a mostrarvene un po', iniziando dai Campioni d'Italia dell'epoca, il Bologna che conquista il suo settimo scudetto ed il suo Capocannoniere del torneo, che fu il danese Harald Nielsen segnando 21 reti.
One of the most amazing championships in history, because in addition to seeing the victorious Bologna led by Fulvio Bernardini, ended with a playoff between the emiliani and the Great Inter leaded by the coach Helenio Herrera, which had excellent players likes Mazzola, Facchetti and Suarez. The sentence has been cancelled by the federation and Bologna saw returned the points previously subtracted to them.
Uno dei campionati più avvincenti della storia, perché oltre a vedere vittorioso il Bologna guidati da Fulvio Bernardini, si concluse con uno spareggio tra gli emiliani e la Grande Inter di Helenio Herrera, la quale vantava tra le proprie fila giocatori del calibro di Mazzola, Facchetti and Suarez. La gara di spareggio si giocò all'Olimpico di Roma, terminò 2-0, con un'autorete di Facchetti e un gol del capocannoniere Nielsen, il trionfo fu dedicato alla memoria del loro presidente Renato Dall'Ara; quest'ultimo era venuto a mancare pochi giorni prima, stroncato da un infarto. Durante la stagione però, i campioni d'Italia ebbero qualche imprevisto con il quale avere a che fare, nel mese di marzo la FIGC annunciò che cinque dei loro giocatori erano risultati positivi alle anfetamine a seguito dei controlli antidoping dopo la sfida vinta per 4 reti ad una contro il Torino, la società venne così penalizzata con –1 punto in classifica e la sconfitta a tavolino nell'incontro conto la squadra granata. A maggio ci fu un altro colpo di scena, fu appurato che i campiono nei controlli effettuati erano stati manomessi, in quanto le dosi di doping riscontrate sarebbero state eccessive da sopportare non solo per l'uomo ma anche per dei cavalli, i responsabili della manipolazione delle provette non vennero mai individuati ufficialmente. La condanna fu così annullata dalla federazione ed ai felsinei furono restituiti i punti a loro sottratti in precedenza.
And here is the third classified, AC Milan, so loved by my mother, among the ranks of the red & black you can find Giovanni Trapattoni, which ended up becoming a real legend. During the decades following that championship, the technical director of the Milanese team, Gipo Viani, was suspected of having been the one who would have falsify the Bolognese team's test tubes, he was never officially condemned.
Ed ecco la terza classificata, il Milan tanto amato da mia madre, tra le fila dei rossoneri militava un certo Trapattoni, che è finito per diventare una vera e propria leggenda. Nei decenni successivi al campionato in questione, il direttore tecnico della squadra milanese, Gipo Viani, fu sospettato di essere stato colui che avrebbe manomesso le provette della squadra Bolognese, non fu mai condannato ufficialmente.
Juventus and Fiorentina arrived both at fourth place, with the Tuscan team just above the old lady, because they had a goal difference of +16, while the black & white of +12. I'm a big fan of Juventus, but at the time I wasn't born yet, of these names I recognize only that of the midfielder Nené, who had won an Intercontinental Cup with the Santos jersey the previous season.

The two team from the Italian Capital, AS Roma and SS Lazio, had arrived respectively twelfth and eighth placement.
Le due romane, Roma e Lazio, dovettero invece accontentarsi di rispettivamente dodicesimo ed ottavo posto in classifica.
Close to the end of the album there is for the first time in the history the section dedicated to the teams of Serie B with a list of all the teams that took part, also on the left of the photo below you can see the general overview of the placings obtained by all the teams that have participated in the Serie A championship.
Verso la fine dell'album si trova, per la prima volta nella storia, la sezione dedicata alle squadre di Serie B con l'elenco di tutte le squadre che vi hanno preso parte, inoltre sulla sinistra della foto sotto potete vedere il prospetto generale dei piazzamenti ottenuti da tutte le squadre che hanno partecipato al campionato si Serie A.
My mother, unfortunately, has not been able to complete the whole section regarding the Serie B, as you can see from the picture below where there are some empty spaces. In this pages you can find Cosenza, Foggia, Lecco and Napoli.

Now the section dedicated to the European Champion Clubs' Cup, better known today as the Champions League, were only 3 teams chosen by Panini to represent the most prestigious Cup in Europe, Real Madrid, Milan and Benfica. As you will soon see, none of those three managed to win the competition.
Ora la sezione dedicata alla Coppa Campioni, meglio conosciuta oggi come Champions League, furono soltanto 3 le squadre scelte dalla Panini per rappresentare la più prestigiosa Coppa Europea, Real Madrid, Milan e Benfica. Come vedrete tra poco nessuna delle tre riuscì a vincere la competizione.
Below is a map of Europe with all the participating teams and their respective countries. Note the pen writing of my mother who wrote the result of the final, Inter FC who won 3-1 versus Real Madrid.

We end with the back cover of the album, dedicated to the list of teams participating in the league of that year, on the left instead you find a letter of the brothers Panini (Giuseppe Benito and Umberto Franco) addressed to all sport friends , in which they best illustrate their collection and add as it was the first year in which they added the Serie B teams on their album.
Finiamo con il retro della copertina di inizio dell'album, dedicato all'elenco delle squadre partecipanti al campionato di quella annata, sulla destra, sulla sinistra invece trovate una lettera dei fratelli Panini (Giuseppe Benito ed Umberto Franco) rivolta a tutti gli amici sportivi, nella quale illustrano al meglio la loro collezione e aggiungono come sia il primo anno nel quale hanno aggiunto le squadre di serie B al loro album.
On the back of the album there is a list of prizes that could be requested by sending the advanced stickers, among these there were books, table football, world map, balls, table tennis rackets, uniforms and Serie A teams jersey, football shoes, encyclopedia an more.
Sul retro dell'album si trova una lista di premi che si potevano richiedere inviando le figurine avanzate, tra questi vi si trovavano libri, calcio balilla, mappamondo, palloni, racchette da ping pong, divise e maglie delle squadre di Serie A, scarpe da calcio, enciclopedie ed altro ancora.
