Russian players snort ammonia before the game. German expert: "For me this is doping"

The German newspaper Bild came up with a striking story. The Russians would have sniffed ammonia for the matches against Spain and Croatia. More specifically, it concerns ammonia, a solution of the gas in water, a solution that is mainly used in cleaning products. Ammonia is not on the list of prohibited substances, although it does provide a short-lasting stimulant effect and a better concentration. German expert Fritz Sörgel, director of the Institute for Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Research in Nürnberg, does not agree: "For me this is doping."
