Xavi Hernandez his career as a player reaches the end. The former leader of Barcelona stops after the current season at the Qatar club Al Sadd. After that, the 38-year-old midfielder wants to become a coach.

For one and a half decade, Xavi was a fixture at Barcelona. Three years ago he traveled to Qatar to finish his career. The 38-year-old Spaniard is now ready to face the truth.

Xavi spent his whole life with Barcelona. In 1997 he started in the first team of Barca. Louis Van Gaal noticed he could do more and added him in the first team. Since that day he played over 500 games for Barca. From 2000-2014 he played in the Spanish National Team and won EC2008, WC 2010 and EC2012.

Together with Raul Gonzalez Blanco, he had the record with 142 games in UEFA Champions League. September 30th, he became the first one playing 143 games. Last game he played against PSG.

He won the Champions League 4 times.

"This is my last year, in January I will be 39 and that is a good time to say goodbye", Xavi tells in a conversation with the Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.

The midfielder wants to retrain as a coach. "The idea here is to start in Qatar and gain experience, test myself, it's a new chapter and I start from scratch."

One day, Xavi hopes to be on the Barcelona bench, but that is still a distant dream. "I do not think so yet, training Barcelona is an unlikely challenge, you have to be ready and I feel that I am not yet," he concludes.

Thank you for what you gave the football!
