Due the departure of T2 Graeme Jones, the technical staff of the Belgium national team after the World Cup has been shaked. Thierry Henry gets more responsibility and he will become T2, the Scottish ex-international Shaun Maloney is the new T3.
Shaun Maloney second choice for the T3 position? As per my personal opinion yes. Timmy Simons, who has 88 caps for the Belgium National team, was the first choice of Martinez. Timmy is active with Club Bruges but didn't want to mix both jobs.
After the departure of Graeme Jones, the loyal lieutenant of Martinez, the position of first assistant with the Red Devils got released. For a successor, the Belgian football association ended up with Thierry Henry.
Henry had been T3 with the Red Devils for the past two years, but after the Worldcup in Russia he played with the ambition to become headcoach himself. That is why the Frenchman also stopped as an analyst at Sky Sports. Henry had let the football association know that an extended stay with the Red Devils was also a possibility. Some teams, one of them Bordeaux, were interested in the experience of Henry as a headcoach but at the end he will stay with Belgium.
Probably, as per my honest opinion, he will stay until the EC2020. Belgium team will have a good chance to win. After that the golden generation will quit the NT.
National coach Roberto Martinez is delighted that Thierry Henry remains loyal to the Red Devils. "He has a huge impact on the group with his natural flair," he says in the local newspaper. "It is generally known that from now on he wants to focus on his career as a trainer and that he has therefore dropped his media obligations." Out of this I think both Martinez & Henry will quit the national team in 2020.
T3 Shaun Maloney will be the only new person in the staff. Maloney has only just stopped playing football and played 41 times for the Scottish national team. He defended the colors of Celtic, Aston Villa and Wigan. His experience can be helpful. As a big fan of the Belgium team I wish them all the very best.
