As the war in Ukraine continues to rage, people's lives continue to be affected on a daily basis. The crippling of social, economic and sports activities in some of Ukraine's major cities as a result of the ongoing war means that thousands if not millions of people are no longer able to carry on with their jobs.

War Effects on Ukrainian Football.

It will only take a full-scale divine intervention for footballing activities to be happening now in Ukraine. Well, you and I know that will be asking too much of the divine Being.

The Ukrainian league has been suspended. Football clubs no longer have fixtures. Players no longer train and play matches. Fans have all been forced out of their homes, so we can't even talk about them cheering watching their teams play. All these mean that clubs will have a tough time paying their players. Understandably, Ukrainian players owe themselves and their land the duty to defend the country in this historic moments in their history. But for those players who are foreign imports contracted to Ukrainian clubs, they will no doubt want to resume playing football - doing their jobs - and so it's important something is done on their sake.

War Effects on Russian Football.

The whole world has come together in solidarity to condemn Russia for starting a war in Ukraine, and footballers are no exceptions to this. As a results, foreign players, coaches and managers who ply their trade in the Russian league all want out. We've already witnessed a few coaches publicly come out and terminate their contract with their employer.

FIFPro Seek Solutions

Reports emanating from the French media (L'Equipe) has it that FIFPro (Fédération Internationale des Association de Footballeurs Professionnels), an organisation that represents professional footballers in the world, has opened negotiations with FIFA so as to salvage the situation that is faced by these Ukraine and Russia based players.

FIFPro is seeking for FIFA to establish a special transfer window which will enable these foreigners who play in Ukraine and Russia to be loaned out to other clubs or for their contracts to terminated without delay.

An unprecedented move by FIFPro. A very commendable one. 👏👏
