On Saturday 17th of November, 2018, The Nigeria National team played 1-1 in their African Cup of Nations Qualifying Match with host country South Africa in Johannesburg to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations billed for Cameroon in June for the First time in six years,

The Super Eagles after winning the cup in South Africa in the 2013 edition of the AFCON were unable to qualify for the 2015 and 2017 editions consequently.

The Eagles who have won the Trophy thrice in 1980, 1994 and 2013 respectively, qualified despite having one more game to play in the qualifying series against Seychelles in March.

The draw teleported Super Eagles to the top of their 2019 AFCON Qualifiers Group E with 10 points from five matches which they won three, draw one and lost one.
