Last night Croatia defender Domagoj Vida netted a goal in extra time and converted his penalty during the shootout to help his team beat Russia and reach the semifinals. However, he and his former teammate Ognjen Vukojević controversially greeted their Ukrainian friends as the duo performed for Dynamo Kiev for many years, while Vukojevic is currently employed by the Ukrainian top guns as a scout. Vida shouted 'Hail Ukraine! Come on, come on!', which is kind of a nationalist motto in Ukraine. Vukojevic, in his turn, said in Russian that Croatia's win over Russia was for Dynamo Kiev and for Ukraine. Although the pair later explained their message was a joke directed at their Ukrainian friends, it was not the most politically correct act considering political tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
