Saturday in Slovenian football was reserved for the biggest derby in the country. Olimpija from capital city Ljubljana was playing in Maribor, the second biggest Slovenian city. Olimpija won 2:1, after falling behind in the first half.

Maribor is top of the table in Slovenian league, Olimpija was second with five points less, so three points were a necessity for green dragons from Ljubljana. They did not start the game well, their best player Rok Kronaveter got hurt and exited the game before the end of first half and in 44. minute Dino Hotić scored for the lead of Maribor.

Start of the second half was excellent for Olimpija, who levelled thanks to a goal from Andres Vombergar, their best scorer of the season. And then, ten minutes later, Tomislav Tomic scored his first goal for Olimpija with a beautiful strike from around 20 meters out. The ball flew into the top corner, Jasmin Handanovic was powerless and Olimpija won the derby, which offered very good football.

Derby would not be derby without flares in the stands, which were full for the first time this season.
