Over and above 3,000 Brighton fans were in a 8,532 crowd at Edgar Street for one of the biggest games in the Seagulls’ history, on May 3, 1997

The game was a 'Do or Die' affair between both teams because they knew at the end of the match only one team will be at the Football League and the losing team will surely be relegated. They both had 46 points at the bottom log of (Division 3) League 2 and both teams needed a win to avoid being relegated, though its quite easy for the away team Brighton as they only had to win or draw to help stay up on the log.

Hereford had a good start from the beginning of the season but at the end they start to Freefall. Turning a play-off team into a relegation team, Hereford only need to win the tie against Brighton to stay up but unfortunately they drew the match 1-1 which sends them packing to the GM Vauxhall Conference.

Hereford had a couple of half-chances, before they drew first blood when teenaget Albion midfielder Kerry Mayo turned a Tony Agana cross into his own goal after 20 minutes.

Brighton & Holve Albion's hero of the day Robbie Reinelt's came in as a substitute and scored in the 62nd- minute to rescue Brighton who are on the verge of relegating to the Vauxhall Conference. Though he was not happy before the game commence because the manager Steve Gritts had chosen to drop him to the bench but after the match it eventually became a great move by the coach and he has this to say:

“I was feeling a bit sorry for myself about not starting, so I was kind of in my own bubble. Selfish I know but I wanted to show them that they shouldn’t have left me on the bench. I think it worked!”
